One receiver does not work

i have removed the ATT WAP and installed a NetGear R6400 for a stronger wi-fi signal in my office. I have a wireless tv box that will not display the pic for more than 10 seconds then shows signal lost. I can reset and pic comes back for about 10 seconds. The wi-fi green indicator lights do light up. If I go back the original WAP the receiver will work. what do i need to do?  thanks

You have both a Gateway and a WAP from AT&T:

  • The Gateway provides the connection to the AT&T Network and Wi-Fi for Internet use.
  • The WAP provides Wi-Fi access for the Wireless TV Receivers.

Getting a Netgear for better Internet Wi-Fi is fine, but it cannot replace the WAP.  The WAP still has to operate to provide Wi-Fi for the TV Receivers, they will not connect to your Netgear.

Assuming you want to run the Netgear in Router mode (instead of Access Point mode), you'll want to:
(a) Set up IP Passthrough (Firewall > IP Passthrough) in DHCP-Fixed mode in the Gateway for your Netgear, and

(b) make sure the router and the Gateway have different IP subnets for their LAN.  The Gateways uses 192.168.1.0/24, so it would be best to change the Netgear to something else if not already something else.

If you want to turn off Wi-Fi on the Gateway, go to the Home Network > Wi-Fi page and disable the SSIDs.

Also, be sure to keep your Router and your WAP at least 3 feet apart to reduce interference issues.

The AT&T WAP is how the wireless receiver "talks" to the gateway. You'll need this plugged in.

To use a self-purchased router, you'll need to bypass the wifi in the gateway.

So if the netgear is plugged into the gateway the receiver will not work.?  And how do i bypass the wifi in the gateway?

If the WAP Is not connected to the gateway, the receiver won’t work. If the netgear and the WAP are connected to the gateway, the receiver will work.

so the WAP has an yellow ethernet cord from the Gateway to the WAP. Now the netgear also has an ethernet cord from the netgear         to a second ethernet plug on the gateway?

There a 4 Ethernet ports. All yellow. A red or green port is for inbound service connection. 2 gray (?) ports for the phones. If more Ethernet connections are needed, purchase a switch. It would connect to a yellow port. TV and WAP stay directly connected to the gateway.

The WAP sets up a dedicated 5.0 network for the wireless stb. Plug in the netgear router and follow @JefferMC  instructions for ip passthrough.
