Number of uverse streams with fiber

I was told that after I upgraded my uVerse service to AT&T Fiber, you could record & watch up to six high-definition (HD) streams; but I am still limited to only 4 (3 being recorded and 1 that I am watching).  Is there something wrong with my equipment?

You need the upgraded DVR and the Internet 1000 plan.

Personally, I think the Internet 1000 plan requirement is *probably* just marketing. I'd think it would work with Internet 500 and maybe even 300.

But you definitely need the upgraded DVR. Keep in mind you will lose recordings and settings, but not scheduled recordings. (Why I'm still on four streams.)

You may also want to make sure you have ethernet from your gateway to your DVR in either situation.

I had the same probably when I upgraded from copper service 50/10 to fiber service.

1st requirement is you do need a pace iph8010 1 tb dvr.  That's the only model that supports 6 streams.

Theoretically you might need 1000/1000 service but probably 300/300 is enough (even att reps aren't really sure what the requirement in system is).

I was finally able to fix it by talking to an advanced domestic tech support team.  The problem was they have 2 ancient systems where it's supposed to automatically set the # of streams possible.  Maybe because I already had an iph8010 before I upgraded to fiber (through luck), it didn't trigger it properly in system.

The odd thing was the first few things they tried didn't work, the system said I was already provisioned for 6 streams.  Then one of the techs tried switching me to 4 streams and back to 6 streams to see if that would fix it.  Oddly when he switched one of the 2 systems to 4 streams it was suddenly fixed LOL.  He ended up leaving it as with 1 system set to 6 streams and the other to 4 streams and I haven't had a problem yet and it's been a few months.

Lol moral of the story is uverse systems are and ancient and super janky and rickety.  But if the techs actually bother to take the time to mess with things they can be goaded into working.

Edit- I just looked up my old post from when it was fixed.

TL:DR I think they solved my problem and you need to have MCT show 6HD streams to get it working.

So the system did not update automatically.  I spoke with domestic tier 2 advanced tech support team and the agent put an order through manually to make the change to switch it from copper to fiber and 4 to 6 streams, said it would take about 30 minutes.  When he first put the order through all of my set top boxes and dvr restarted which seemed promising.  Well it's been 3 days and even after factory resteting bgw320 gateway as suggested it didn't work. But if finally managed to get through to advanced resolution team and the agent Angel seems to have been able to fix it.  Here's the weird part:

It seems at&t has 2 systems MST and MCT.  when I first called today 9/15 it showed me having 6 HD streams in MST and 4 streams in MCT.  So the team lead suggested putting an order in to switch it to 4 streams and and then when that finished putting in another order to switch it back to 6 streams.  When he put the order in to switch it to 4 streams, my system seems to have fixed itself.

  • It now shows the reverse 4 hd streams in MST and 6 HD streams in MCT. But it lets me record 6 streams and correctly shows 0SD/6HD (wan) &(ingress).  So apparently the MCT system is what matters.  and since all of the orders showed completed we decided the best course of action was to leave it how it is and working and hopefully nothing should change or re-provision on its own and it should now work correctly.  I'm excited to finally not have to deal with conflicts anymore.

Thank you, I shall contact them.  I do not "store" programs for more than a day or so on the DVR, I just use it so I can see programs that on at the same time.  As to having ethernet; I do not use WiFi for connections other that with my wireless phone.  First thing I did when I purchased my home was to run ethernet everywhere; back then it was CAT5 which has recently been upgraded to CAT8.

Hey DocWhite001. Thanks for reaching about your Uverse service, and we'd be happy to help you with the amount of streams that are available for you to watch.

We appreciate baseballisback for providing that helpful information on what you'll need to do to have the 6 high-definition streams.

In order to take a closer look into upgrading your service, we'll need to meet you in a Direct Message. Please check your Direct Message inbox (it's the chat icon next to the bell icon in the upper right corner of the Forums).

We look forward to hearing from you.

The page could not be found or you don't have permission to view it.

I guess, nothing lost, nothing gained.  I shall just leave things as they are, and worry about more important things.

All in all I am very happy with uVerse, and for the loss of 2 streams is not a big deal.   I have a alternate means to work around things.  I have 3 Super VHS recorders that have digital tuners, and a broadcast antenna, so I can record over the air local programing, leaving me 4 streams to record other things.   I have had great service so no other complaints, though I do wish that AT&T would raise their "dividends" but that is another thing entirely.   I have been with AT&T internet from Day #1, and via my father and grandfather have AT&T stock from the days of the original issue.... so I am not going anywhere.

One thing we used to recommend was that people record shows at off-hours. Of course, this was before apps and whatnot, but if you can record a show during that overnight rebroadcast, that may be a possible workaround.
