New BGW320 gateway and existing uverse DVR and set top boxes
The new gateway does not have a coax port for connecting to our DVR and set top boxes. Will these devices work if they are only connected using the internet connections on the gateway with ethernet to the back of each box? Or can I use one MoCA 2.5 on the back of the gateway to convert the ethernet connection to coax then through a splitter to the DVR and set top boxes?

The DVR and other Receivers do not speak MoCA. They speak HPNA, which is a protocol with a similar objective (bridge Ethernet traffic over other mediums, including Coax). So, you could use a MoCA adapter at the Gateway to send the signal over your home wiring, you'd also have to put a MoCA adapter at each receiver to convert back to Ethernet and connect to the Ethernet port on the receiver.
Firstly, the non-DVR receivers could be swapped for Wireless Receivers. A single dedicated WAP would be provided to be connected to the Gateway via Ethernet and the receivers can connect to it over 802.11ac at 5 GHz. But that won't work for the DVR; the DVR requires a wired connection.
There are HPNA adapters available, which you could connect at the Gateway and continue to use HPNA over coax. You could also pick up powerline bridges, one for each location necessary (the DVR at least, and each receiver not going wireless or Ethernet), and use those to bridge the Ethernet from the Gateway to the receivers.
Otherwise, yes, you'd need to run an Ethernet cable.
