Need help with charges

I turned my equipment in today...now I'm being told they might return it because the equipment wasn't returned soon enough. I never got any emails that were sent...they say I owe $600....I didn't know there was a time period first of all.  Then covid happened not long after my service was canceled so I really couldn't go anywhere to return the equipment because the world basically shut down. Please review the account and help me.

you have 21 days from the date of cancellation (during covid it was extended to 60 days) to return the equipment. once charged you have 6 months to return it and they  will refund you charges.

The woman I just spoke to from AT&T said something completely different.

  • Damaged equipment fee: We charge this fee if we determine your equipment was damaged due to abuse. Want to dispute the fee? Contact us
  • Non-return equipment fee: We charge this fee if we don’t get your equipment within 21 days of your return or disconnect date. If you return it after 21 days, we’ll credit your account within 2 months of receiving the equipment. Find out what type of equipment you have to return

I want to provide a more complete copy of the policy that mentions the 6 months deadline.  The emphasis in this paragraph is mine.

f.Return of AT&T Equipment:

Except as otherwise provided, AT&T Equipment must be returned to AT&T undamaged, within twenty-one (21) calendar days after your Service is terminated for any reason. If equipment is not returned within twenty-one (21) calendar days, or is returned damaged, you will be charged a Non-Return Equipment Fee. We may retain any advance payment or deposit, or portion thereof that previously had not been refunded, if you fail to return the AT&T Equipment within this time period. If all AT&T Equipment is returned within six (6) months of termination, any fees charged for such AT&T Equipment will be refunded (other than fees for damages). No refunds will be made for AT&T Equipment returned more than six (6) months after termination. This Paragraph also applies if your existing equipment is replaced or upgraded for any reason.

We're here to help address your equipment billing concerns, @Jbourgeois82.

What @Constructive & @JefferMC mentioned is correct. while you are eligible to be refunded if you returned your equipment within 6 months of your service being terminated, the charges will remain valid if that timeframe has passed.

If you believe that it's been less than 6 months since you returned the equipment, please don't hesitate to call our customer service line at 1(800)288-2020 and they'll be able to assist with looking at the details of your account with you and verifying whether or not you're eligible for a refund.

Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, and thanks for reaching out on the AT&T Community Forums!
