Malfunctioning remote control S10-S3 despite new batteries

The S10-S3 Remote that goes with the wired set-top box  (STB) seems to be malfunctioning, even with fresh batteries.  The remote itself works when you press the keys, but the wired receiver does not receive the command via the infrared remote.  I bought a replacement remote on Amazon, but can't program the thing to control the STB.  Is this a problem with the remote or the STB, which is made by Cisco?  It happened last night after we had a thunderstorm here in Metairie, LA.

If the issue happened immediately post-thunderstorm, then that would indicate an issue with the receiver, as the remote is very unlikely to be affected by a lightning strike that doesn't directly hit it.  If you have not already, unplug the receiver for 20-30 seconds, and plug it back in and see if it then responds to commands.

If not, then you can ask AT&T to replace it.  If this is your DVR STB, then replacing it will remove all of your existing recordings (though your schedule for future recordings is in the cloud and would be maintained).

Thanks for the tip.  I chatted with AT&T and they said that the remote was faulty.  They're sending me a free replacement via UPS or FedEx sometime next week.
