How do I transfer recorded films from one ATT uVerse DVR to replacement DVR?

I would like to transfer the films recorded to the new ATT uVerse DVR. How do I do that?

What "my thoughts" said.

You can...but it's time-consuming. You'd have to figure out a way to hook your DVR or a receiver up to your computer via a TV capture card.

You'd then play it through the computer and use the capture card to record the show.

I suppose there'd be ways to remove commercials.

I'm not sure a DVD recorder would do it due to anti-piracy methods.

If the reps are giving out false info, that's shameful, but we know 99% of reps say what the customer wants to hear, just to get them off the phone.

Wow. I feel like raising (Edited per community guidelines) about this. Probably because I was told something different when agreeing to replace the DVR.

Someone needs to train the telephone tech support that the transfer is not possible. What a mess and what an inconvenience. (I recorded films in which I am one of the actors!). It’s time for me to “cut the cord,” and find another way to record video that I can keep. Wow!

The option of moving recordings from one DVR to another has NEVER been an option with Uverse.

People tend to mistakenly think that recordings on a DVR are PERMANENT when the truth is that DVRs exist to give us the option of watching something at a later date...not for all eternity.

My daughter is a very successful attorney, comedian, podcaster and actor and has been featured on different local and national programs and commercials.  While I enjoy recording those programs, I know that they're there until I have to replace the DVR.

Even if you find a movie that you were in On Demand, you cannot be assured that it will live on in infamy.  Your only option to ensure that you have a lifetime, tangible record is to buy the DVD.

Well, skeeter, that clears up ONE issue (with your clear cut opinion). Sounds like excuses.....

I guess if one pays for a service (recording a film), it’s yours (see Apple and others for buying films). I think the fee one pays for “renting” the DVR, and the monthly fee for TV service ENTITLES one to keep a recorded film or TV episode FOREVER. Prove me wrong. 

What about being told by an AT&T team member that it WAS POSSIBLE to transfer from the old DVR to the replacement? 

“Never been an option?” I don’t get that.

Well I've had Uverse TV for 14 years (2007) so I feel that I probably have more hands-on experience than many.  I was there in the beginning when we got 2 SD streams and 1 HD stream and all receivers were hard wired.  

Unfortunately, CSRs have been known to offer incorrect information.

We too were told by our customer service rep that we could transfer our recorded shows.  Very disappointing!!

Every time I've called AT & T Customer Service, how come I am consistently getting Told that I can Transfer DVR recordings from the Old one to the new one? Last time I did that when installing it myself, everything got deleted permanently and my mom and I got SO Upset by that. Their Tech Team actually told me last time that there was no way to transfer the recordings which honestly, is really really stupid.

I actually had to get another replacement receiver due to another hardware issue w/the current one making the tv nearly constantly glitch out. And I literally just got the original replacement earlier this year. When I called abt. the glitching issue, the representative I talked to said if I had a Cord, I could transfer it that way or talk to their Tech team. When the tv glitches out almost every 2-5 mins. or so, it's annoying. I know how to setup/install the new receiver so that's not the issue at all for me. The issue is when all the recordings we have are permanently erased and can't even transfter them to the new one. 

And yes, this is U-Verse so I'm not sure why that's not even an option for them. I was informed power outages can cause hardware issues w/these receivers and thankfully, I only had 1 this year (I don't remember abt. last year though).

You CANNOT transfer recordings from an old DVR to a new one.  Your scheduling will remain but your recordings are GONE.

I don't care what a CSR tells you.  It doesn't matter how many 'cords' you buy.  I don't care how many Techs you talk to.

YOU CANNOT TRANSFER RECORDINGS FROM ONE DVR TO ANOTHER.

That being said, recordings are only effected when you replace the DVR.  Replacing a STB has no effect on DVR recordings.

I just recently attempted this. What baseballisback posted is accurate, but each network is different. For example, I was able to record an ABC network show and CBS' 60 Minutes, as these weren't protected. But I tried to rip to DVD two NBC programs and those were protected, so it wouldn't let me. But this is the most feasible way to do it. I do wish AT&T would provide an expander of sorts, for DVR programs but I don't think they do.

You know, I didn't give that much thought, but juniper, now that I think about it the programs that it didn't let me rip were HD and the standard ones it let me dupe to DVD!

Keep in mind that DVD isn't HD quality.

And yeah, HDCP was what I was thinking of.
