HELP - DVR Box to use Uverse

Can someone tell me if it is mandatory to have a DVR box attached to my router to have Uverse service wirelessly in my home?  I currently have never used the DVR (actually it's been disconnected for a while) and want to return it to ATT.  I do have 2 wireless boxes that I use (NOTE: the Coax in my home isn't connected where I have TVs so wireless is a must) that are connected to my router and Uverse works fine.  I'm told that the DVR is mandatory for Uverse... I can't return it and i must keep paying for this box despite never using it.  Is that somehow true?

We're happy to clear some things up about your DVR, @picelli4221!

If your U-verse service is working fine without the DVR being connected, then you can continue with your current set-up if you'd like. As far as returning the DVR goes, this would mean that you would need to downgrade your plan (to U-verse Basic).

All U-verse TV plans above U-verse Basic have DVRs included, and this cannot be changed. If you already have U-verse Basic, then the DVR is optional. Check out our U-verse TV package comparison article to see which packages require the DVR.

If you'd like to make any changes to your U-verse TV plan, let us know. We'll be happy to help with any change requests you may have.

UBasic (only 30 channels) is the only package that has a "optional" DVR so as stated, you would have to DOWNGRADE to that.  All other packages INCLUDE the DVR in the price.

If have Ufamily, U200, U300 or U450 the DVR is included, not paying extra.

The receivers such as wireless boxes (7005, 7105 or 2500) would have a monthly charge. If trying to reduce your bill return one or both wireless receivers and place a tv connected to the free DVR. This may mean relocating a tv or paying for a connection cable (cat5e or cat6) to be installed between the gateway and tv location OR paying to move the gateway to a tv location to allow short direct connection.

As i know ensure that your DVR box is compatible with U-verse. If you are unsure, you can consult AT&T's website or contact their customer support for assistance.
