Can't change channels with Samsung Smart TV remote
We've been using Samsung Smart TV remote to operate our TV for the last year. After 3PM , Oct 4 we couldn't change channels, or use any other dvr box function. Long conversation with the U-verse was useless, as they refused to acknowledge there is a problem and insisted on us using the AT&T remote. This is inconvinient, as it doesn't have the Smart TV features. I wonder is it the U-verse problem, or Samsung problem and how to solve it. Thanks!

@a_phyl26- Based on what you say, the problem appears to be between then IR receiver on the TV & the IR receiver on the STB.
The not changing channel is a puzzler. Hard to come up with a way it would know that it is not working.
I believe that the TV cannot "see" the STB. I expect it just blasts out the IR.
If you post your model number, I will look at rthe TV manual to see what I can learn.
Have you tried the Samsung side to see if there is troubleshooting suggestions or contact their support.
Regarding moving the IR blaster - The STB IR is flaky. It is a problem with too low an IR as well as too high an IR signal. I have a Logitech Harmony IR blaster & moved the STB & had problems, even when I moved it back to the original position.
Try covering the front of the STB with a low transparency material to see if your problem is too strong a signal. This an excellent material for thsi purpose - http://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-2-in-x-150-ft-Vinyl-Electrical-Bundling-Tape-Silver-30002664/202741845#specifications

I wonder is it the U-verse problem, or Samsung problem and how to solve it. Thanks!
You have to figure it out.
Does the STB work with the U-verse remote? Yes. It is not the STB.
Is it a physical problem or a programming problem with the Samsung?
Can you see of it works with something else? Is the IR blaster connected to the TV? Try different postions of the blaster. Is the blaster connection optical or electrical? Do you have to program the Samsung remote for U-verse (reprogram)? Is the feature turned on in the Samsung menu?
The STB is well hidden from any other source of light than the blaster?
Just had another thought - If you do not have another evice to test the blaster - look at it through a digital camera to see if it is blasting. Also, is the Pas through IR receiver different than the TV IR receiver? You did not cover it?

@aviewer Thank you for breaking it down. The STB works with the ATT remote. The Samsung remote is working for all the other features, it even brings up the tv channel view interface. Though, if I select a channel from that interface, the tv will go back to the original channel. I tried to reprogram the STB to the Samsung. The TV sees the STB and identifies it as such, preventing me from reprograming. Perhaps, I should try it with a different HDMI outlet, as a new box?
IR blaster has been recently moved, however it's connected (wire), is above the STB and unobstructed. All of the other functions are working, like the sound, Smart TV apps, etc.
I will try moving the IR blaster back to its old position. I'm inclined to think it is the blaster issue. Thanks again.

@a_phyl26 - Good to hear you got it working. Glad I could help. That is a great feature if you are watching only one TV at time.
If you ever go for more TVs you need an RF remote with addressable blasters. It is teh addressable blaster feature that lets you control multiple STBs with the same remote.

@a_phyl26 - You did start out by saying you were using the Samsung remote. Just for fun, you should be able to use the U-verse remote, as well - IR is the same.
Program the u-verse remote for the TV & it will control "standard TV functions" & pass through the TV for STB functions. It will not control the "extra smart TV functions", though some may be available on a menu brought up by a U-verse remote button.

These smart TV's are somtimes too smart for their own good.
If you your voice recognition and motion control are selected "Off", this stops the channel change function to work on the remote control for some crazy reason.
Solution .... select them "On", and the channel change will work.
Also, inside of the battery compartment of the silver handcontroller, is a "Pairing" button for the remote controller. This is not mentioned snywhere in the manuals. Strange but true.

Anyone using a Rogers Nextbox cannot use the Samsung Remote to change channels, must use the Rogers remote if newer models of Samsung TV's. Many of Samsung's TV's (mine UN32J5500AF, newer TV) have this problem and Samsung is not interested in fixing and apparently hasn't viewed the internet whereby more than 200 complaints regarding this issue with many different boxes, not only Rogers. Also Rogers isn't interested in this issue of making their boxes compattible to work with Samsung remotes of any kind. Performed a whole day of research on this with Rogers & Samsung. Newer Samsung TV's do not have a UNIVERAL remote, therefore do not work with many cable boxes.
