Can I come get a replacement gateway?

Can I come get a replacement gateway device?   My broadband light is blinking and switches from green for awhile, then red for awhile, then green for awhile, etc.  I booked an appointment for an AT&T technician to come to fix the problem, and I waited 9 hours for him or her to arrive.  I tried to get a status but was unsuccessful in getting a response. Thanks!

You cannot "pickup" a gateway at a store.

You have to call CS 1-800-288-2020 to request a replacement.  You will be sent one for a self-install.  You have 21 days to return the bad one.

Att is responsible to ensure service up to and including the gateway.  Hold them to it.

Not strictly true.  Inside wiring between the Gateway and the NID or AT&T Branded Jack (whichever applies) is still the responsibility of the homeowner, even when that inside wiring was provided by AT&T.

Not been my experience, sorry. @JefferMC There’s no way I’d ever agree to being charged for any work to wire up gateway.  Cheers.

It's essentially the same as when you had POTS:  If there was an issue in your home between the NID and your phone, that was your problem to solve.  You could pay a monthly wiring maintenance fee to make the problem AT&T's instead.

If your dog eats your cable, that's not AT&T's fault.

Under normal circumstances dogs don’t eat cables, so there’s little reason for an installation to be damaged.  I’ve had Att here redo my connection from the NID to the gateway to either correct an issue or meet some requirement they had.  In one case they ran a whole new cable to replace what they had originally installed.   I’ve always found this aspect of a service call to be fairly reasonable, but getting to the point where work is done can take eons to reach.  I’m pretty sure Adelphia and Comcast behaved similarly in this regard.

We can close this thread.  The AT&T technician came out and then said "the problem is up at the corner of the street".   He came back in an hour with the problem solved.  Further, he said that the only connection that he worked on was mine, which I found odd since I have many neighbors with U-Verse, yet he only had a ticket for me.  Either way, problem resolved so I'll close the thread.
