AT&T Unable to provide replacement remote control for U-Verse service
Have been trying to get replacement remote control for about 1 week. Every time I order it, it say "error" - unable to do anything - come back later. Finally got on chat. Told them and response was to "run diagnostics". After 20-30 minutes, agent gave me to supervisor "Stanly". Response was basically - sir, you have new service being installed on 10-30-21 (in 5 weeks) and you must wait until then. (I'm being upgraded to the new fiber system being installed).
My issues with AT&T has been that every time we see an AT&T truck in our area, I basically save my work as I'm afraid of whole system going out. My new neighbor had AT&T service installed and I lost my whole system. I had to wait 4 days for service. No TV, no internet, no telephone and on top of that, my AT&T service is 1 bar in the house and I live in a well to do Atlanta area. Crappy service. My daughter had 5 bars on Mt. Everest, but I get 1 in Atlanta.
My last communication with "Stanley", after he stated "Just checking to see if you are still there so we can continue", was this:
"The order issue is AT&T's problem. I need a remote. I will not wait until 10-30-21. Send me an email with confirmation of order."
Needless to say, "Stanley" thinks that I will wait until 10-30-21 to "order" my new remote control.
I spend $350/month for TV/Internet/Telephone AND $300/month for cell phone. Starting next week, I am home for the week. I will be concentrating on a new vendor to provide my home service and my cellular service.

If you still need one, let me know. I have a quite a few never used (arguably new, stored away in a box forever), silver and black. Better pricing that Amazon - free! To boot, we live in ATL.
As far as your cell signal, before you take the time/trouble to switch, have someone with another carrier visit your location and compare. Given the topography and local restrictions/regulations on tower placement, coverage can be tricky. On Mt. E you're not in a building/house and you've got the advantage with the elevation and tower likely in line of sight. It might be worth turning on wifi calling if your mobile device is compatible.

It's odd that they can't/won't send you a new remote until then.
I've never had to pay for a replacement remote and I've been with AT&T since 2008. I'm not saying people *do* pay for them, but I just find it ridiculous that customers should pay for equipment failure not related to their own doing. If I run a remote through the wash or my dog chews it up, sure, I can understand paying for a new one. But if it's something like a button or three failing due to wear and tear, then AT&T should definitely replace it for free.
Heck, I had to replace a receiver recently. I asked for a remote, as one was going bad. For some reason, they sent two remotes and I don't remember ever getting a remote with a receiver.
