Additional "One-Time" Fee for the addition of a Wireless Receiver
This is more of a complaint than anything else, but I was wondering if anyone has ever had a "One-Time" fee for adding receivers or other equipment? All I wanted was an additional wireless receiver for my house at $10.00 per month, but they apparently have to add a one-time fee of $50.00 for no apparent reason. I do not require a technician to install it, it's pretty much "plug and play", so other than the cost of shipping which should not be more than $10.00 roughly, how can they justify this charge other than greed itself. I've been with ATT over 20 years and have used and still use all of their services, this is just all-out dirty business. Do I really have to play the "Change my Internet/TV Provider Game" every two to three years?

If you already have the WAP, I agree...the fee should be waived.
I'd call back, threaten to cancel, get transfered to cancelations/retentions, then very politely explain your situation. They may not be able to straight-up waive your fee, but they should be able to give you a promotion or two which would definitely lessen the blow or maybe even be a better deal "in the long run."
If they do give you a deal, it's up to you to remember when the promotional rates expire. Channel additions (such as "free HBO for 3 months") won't automatically end.

Thank You, I will attempt to try your suggestion. If not, it might be time to give Spectrum TV and Internet a try....Thanks Again.

There has always been a ~50 one-time charge for adding a wireless receiver after install (with install, no additional charge). Even if it were the second one with an existing WAP. I think part of the reason for the charge is they expect a support call (and rightly so). If you already have two wireless receivers and the wrong WAP, it could cover the cost of the replacement WAP that can handle more than 2 receivers.

IMO, the rep should be able to see what WAP the customer has.
I honestly don't remember a $50 fee when I got my second wireless receiver. I think I got my first when my Motorola VIP 1200 needed replaced. I vaguely remember having a black wired receiver that I think was swapped via mail for a wireless.
I also know I've had incredible luck with AT&T (partially because I had so many ridiculous issues at the start) so other customers may have a different experience.
