Sent to collections after paying my bill!

I canceled my directv and at&t service back in January 2016 and paid a final bill of $714.92 in February! I received the equipment box to send all of the equipment back in and mailed it out immediately after I received it (within 24 hours). Less than a month later I received another bill stating I owed $272.99 for equipment. I returned all equipment I had including cords and adapters. I called at&t to resolve this issue after I got this bill. I spoke with a manager and she stated that the $272.99 balance due would be cleared and I did not owe anything. I assumed everything was good and done.

 

Now, 4 months later, I have received a letter in the mail stating that at&t has assigned my balance due of $272.99 to a collection agency! I am feeling very frustrated with at&t and I do not want this to harm my credit. It was already tough financially to pay $714.92 to close the account, but now I'm being told I have to pay another $272.99 that I thought was cleared from my account.

 

Who can I talk to to help me solve this situation? I do not want to have this affect my credit and I would like this balance due cleared from my account. I would like to speak with someone who can actually help me asap! I will not be paying this because I was told by a manager that it was cleared. I will never use at&t services again after this!

I was forced to pay a bill for a phone that was never installed at my home due to att installation guy never showing up and was told by at least two representatives that everything would be canceled. Two months later I received a noticed from a collections agency and I felt forced to pay a bill for something I never even used or had installed. I have been an Att customer for several years and unfortunately I will be canceling my account!

I just sent a private message to AT&T and they had a representative call me. Unfortunately we did not get anywhere and I am still stuck trying to figure this out. Customer service is the worst!

Don't waste any more time with regular customer service, they can't solve serious issues like yours..
