prblems with my bill

My special deal with Uverse was going to expire March 12th, so when I got my bill in February I called to cancel TV service and opted to keep the internet. So they said I would have to pay an additional early disconnect fee of $20, which I said was no problem. So it was disconnected early in late february, but they still wanted me to pay for a full month even though I had no  cable. And I thought that was ridiculous so I called customer support  and they said i would have to pay a full month and then after 20-30 days I would be refunded. So instead, I paid for the internet charges and they tacked on the additional 47.15 from the prior month even tho I got no service.  So I have been paying for my internet, no problem. But what doesnt make sense is that they want me to pay the 47.15, just so they can wait 20-30 days and refund the same amount of money. i dont get it. It makes no sense whatsoever.

AT&T does not prorate the final month on any of their services.  They're not going to refund the part of the month after the cancellation date.

However, in general, with AT&T it is often best to pay the bill and fight it out later rather than start piling up late charges.

Since AT&T does NOT prorate your final bill, depending on WHEN you cancel and WHEN your billing date ends, there's a good chance that you will pay for the next month.

For example, your BILLING cycle ran 2/11 thru 3/10.  If you cancelled on 3/12, you are into the next billing cycle (3/11-4/10) and are billed for that billing cycle but you continue to have service.

Whoever told you that there would be a refund was wrong.   Check you bill online to confirm billing dates.

First check the dates on the bill. If the day you called to cancel falls within those dates, then you were billed correctly. Only if the bill is for the service month that started after you called to cancel would there be an error.

AT&T does not prorate the final bill. So the agent saying you would get a refund was most likely just saying what you wanted to hear to get you off the phone.
