Opening an account without my authorization
I had a renter and was moving out . The direct tv account was in his name. He closed the account and sent the equipment back but turned over the account in my name. I did not authorize this. I wasn’t even here when this took place. I was planning on getting Xfinity. I paid the last bill of 104.04 on 9/7/22. I sent the equipment back to Direct TV. I am now going to be sent to a collection agency for being put in a 3 year contract that I did not authorize. My account was cancelled on 9/14/22. I signed nothing for this so I feel I owe you nothing. I would like to see a signed authorization from me allowing this. My name is Rose (Edited to remove personal information) Firestone, Co. My phone is (Edited to remove personal information). Please get back to me and let me know what you are going to do about this. If I get sent to collections, I will get an attorney.

@Rodebug This is a PUBLIC MESSAGE BOARD. Please remove your PERSONAL information using the 3 vertical dots.
This is NOT a way to contact AT&T or DirecTV. You even posted in the UVERSE TV forum which has NOTHING to do with DirecTV.
File a complaint with the BBB.

@skeeterintexas
Maybe we should text the OP telling them to remove their info. Too bad we can't edit the info out of there.

We have AT&T people (well maybe it's just one) who will respond if you use the Flag as Inappropriate option from the 3 dot menu. I've had a few times when they missed one for whatever reason, but I'm batting in the high .900's when flagging. Now, no telling what their schedule has been over the holidays but things should get back to normal by Tues.

@Rodebug :
(a) as others have said, this is a public message board, you should immediately remove your Personal Information that you wouldn't want to share with everyone on the Internet (especially your name in conjunction with your phone number and address).
(b) as others have said, this is a message board for AT&T customers to help each other. There is a small team of AT&T Support reps operating under the name "ATThelp", who may or may not contact you via a reply to this post to begin a Direct Message conversation, where you can share personal information securely. That is the only contact you should expect from AT&T regarding this post and the only way you should provide personal information here.
(c) you should work on the clarity of your story before you present it again:
(d) if your prior tenant misrepresented himself and opened accounts in your name or transferred accounts to your name without your authorization, then your tenant committed fraud. You should contact the authorities about that and then work with the DIRECTV fraud department. However, I would suggest you work really hard to clarify your story better than you presented it above. Otherwise, they may have a hard time understanding how the fraud occurred.
(e) finally, as has been said above, AT&T has spun off AT&T TV / DIRECTV to a separate DIRECTV company. Please see their forums (which are public forums like this one) here:
https://forums.directv.com/
There is a Contact Us link at the bottom for directly contacting DIRECTV.
(f) Good Luck.
