Late Equipment Return (Medical) Please help!
Hello,
I've never done a forum post but I'm in a bit of trouble and could use some help. I was diagnosed with a heart condition back in 2017 after an emergency room visit. I ended my lease, closed my AT&T and moved back home across the country for treatment. Roommate was responsible for returning the equipment (really I was, it was under my name...) but my priority was health. Years have passed and this showed up on my Credit Report.
I contacted the roommate and he found the equipment in an old moving box in his garage and mailed it to me. I contacted AT&T and explained and they were wonderful, told me things like this happen and that I should bring the equipment to a FedEx or UPS Store for drop-off. I did that and was told they can't find my account (too old), wouldn't accept equipment. I went to AT&T Store, and was told that they were just a 'Point of Sales' and couldn't accept it either.
Am I just stuck with this equipment / bill? Or has anyone found any luck getting the proper person on the phone to see what can be done. I've contacted several times and Customer Service says 'No problem drop it off' then they refer me to collections and they say 'You can't drop it off without authorization from Customer Service' etc. I feel like I'm stuck in a loop and just want to be a good customer and resolve this issue fairly.

Have your read the UVERSE TERMS OF SERVICE agreement?
You have up to 6 months to return the equipment to receive credit....
After 6 months the charge for unreturned equipment stays regardless if return the unit or not.
The charge would be $150 per item, if only had internet should be $150 plus any related account expenses not paid.
https://www.att.com/legal/terms.internetAttTermsOfService.html
see sections 5 and 7f
No refunds will be made for AT&T Equipment returned more than six (6) months after termination

From the LEGALLY BINDING Uverse Terms of Service you had a maximum of 90 days to return the equipment:
Return of Equipment.
Upon termination of the Services for whatever reason, you must return the Equipment, undamaged, within 21 calendar days to AT&T. If the Equipment is not returned within 21 calendar days, or is returned damaged, you will be charged for the value of the Equipment. We may retain any advance payment or deposit, or portion thereof that previously had not been refunded, if you fail to return the Equipment within this time period. If the Equipment is returned within 90 days of termination, any fees charged for the Equipment will be refunded (other than fees for damages). No refunds will be made for any Equipment returned more than 90 days after termination.
Contact the collection agency to see about paying off the debt. AT&T is not going to forgive a debt that is now 4 years old.
Edit: @my thoughts The 6 month window applies to internet equipment. UverseTV is still 90 days. The OP posted in the Uverse TV forum so I assumed that was the service but who knows. *shrug*
