HD Technology Fee

Have been subscribed to U200 plan for years and have questioned the HD technology fee many times.
if research is done for a channel lineup for the U200 plan, it shows that any channels from 1000-1999 are HD channels. It does not inform you that in order to receive these channels that are ADVERTISED in the plan as HD INCLUDED, you will be required to pay an additional fee of $10 fo view these channels on your HDTV.
If you choose to have the HD technology fee removed, the channels disappear from your U200 plan, and your screen displays that "YOU ARE NOT SUBSCRIBED TO THIS CHANNEL" even though the plan advertises HD channels as being included in their terms.
If ATT/Uverse chooses to continue to advertise as such they should remove the wording "HD channels included" or state that an addition HD technology fee will be charged if you wish to view the channels 1000-1999.
he government requires "truth in advertising" and ATT/Uverse is not adhering to this rule.
A (Edited per community guidelines) (Edited per community guidelines) should be instituted to reimburse all subscribers under the U-Fanily to U300 plans over the length of their subscriptions.

The included HD applied to new accounts when they were still selling Uverse TV but those prices were $10 more than the earlier packages that required that you add on HD if you wanted it.

So....older accounts will list a $10 HD Fee.  Newer accounts did not list the HD fee but were $10 higher.

Of course this is all irrelevant since Uverse TV is no longer being sold.

For those of us that stayed on Uverse and were grandfathered in, it becomes a mute point. We can still access our bill online and view the U200 package under our account. It clearly states "HD channels included", over 270 channels & makes no mention of an additional technology fee being required to access these channels.

A Google search Sept. 2021 update to the Channel Lineup indicates that HD is "optional" for all plans except U450, but is not noted when accessing your account. Currently & in the past ATT/Uverse has no way of knowing whether you had a SDTV or HDTV. I was being charged a HD Technolgy fee when I still had an analog television. I was never made aware of the fee and there was no attempt to notify users of the additional charge and a true definition of what the charge was for.

I standby my argument. If you advertise the channels as part of the package, an additional fee should not be charged without notifying the customer of what the fee entails and what will happen if you refuse to pay it and lose the channels in the package.. Genuinely FALSE ADVERTISING that they failed to identify online and in billing.

In phone calls to Customer Service they constantly tried to persuade me to change to Direct TV when I bartered changes in my bill, and was then sent to Customer Loyalty to resolve the increased pricing. And, I continue to have to do that once a year.

There is no clear choice in finding a reasonable, competent cable provider. Like others, I may eventually make the transition to full streaming. Unfortunately, we still need a commitment to the cable providers to provide us with Internet service. Competition is limited when it comes to finding IPS in neighborhoods. Pricing for cell phones and reliable internet service & speed is out of control.

I had a similar problem with U200 plan. A channel I received under U-Family (in regular and HD) is no longer available under U200 even though it is advertised as part of the plan. After spending 1 1/2 hours trying to resolve the issue, they tell me I can either go back to the U-Family plan to get that one channel or upgrade to U300 (of course for more money) to get that one channel. When I expressed that their advertisement of the included channels was fraudulent, all the representative could say was he reported the misinformation and he supposed those people who made the mistake would be punished...but I can still upgrade for an additional $20 per month. Definitely a money-making, false-advertising, deception business practice.

Let's see what we can do about that channel, @oldmk!

Can you let us know what channel it is that you were receiving? That way we can reference our most recent information to verify that you should be indeed receiving the channel.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Wasted energy.  Att didn’t care about that wording enough to change it and guess who the new owners are and how much more they’ll care about it?  😉
