False promises and ridiculous charges
Can someone please tell me who to contact to resolve this mess. I have been given the run around for over a year (not exaggerating). Everytime I am assured it is fixed something else comes up and AT&T's lack of help and concern has lead me to have to cancel and now be charged extra fees for that (go figure). To be more specific on my issues, I had Spectrum for many years and was quite happy with them, I had all of their services and unfortunately opened my door to a Brandon one afternoon. Brandon was a salesman who was not taking no for an answer and actually came back a few times in order to persuade me. My sign up "deal" consisted of my TV and internet (even though I preferred keeping my TV, internet, and home phone, he convinced me to go buy a magic jack instead and it would be the same). So all of this guaranteed my channels, 3 boxes, what he called "lifetime subscription" to HBO max, locked in price for 2 years, and a $200 gift card after (a specified amount of time....at this point I don't remember if it was 30 days or 90). I made the switch and really was not too unhappy with services. The gift card never came and I was calling AT&T many times over the next few months and was told that Brandon never noted the acct probably, that I was calling the wrong dept, that it would be arriving soon......you name it I heard it. I was even told at one point that since Brandon didn't note the acct I would have to have him go back in and fix it. YES....I HAD to find their employee who came to MY door to fix a note on this transaction. After a few months of getting absolutely NOWHERE, although very unhappy I had to let it go give up on that promise and chalk it up as a lesson learned. So time goes on and more recently here my bills double AND HBO max is gone. I am no longer being charged the rate I was told I was "locked into for 2 years" and HBO max was not a "lifetime deal" like the young man said, not even a "as long as you are an AT&T customer" deal as I had suspected he meant anyway. No, these were really just "let us get you signature have you switch, get commission, and screw the customer deal". So again, I am given the run around with AT&T and I am informed that too was a lie and that my only option was to downgrade my service and to pay for HBO max. Eventually after being transferred to several different depts and one lady doing her job and looking into it she did offer a dollar amount off a month (which was nowhere near the difference I am paying for service now which is almost double from when I signed up). She also informed me that the HBO max deal I got was through the internet and only the TV deal expired. She instructed me to login through the internet to continue with HBO max for as long as I had AT &T. She also verified that the gift card should have been sent out and someone messed up there and gave me the number that deals with that specific promotion. So now here we are and last month after never receiving the gift card, my bill not being locked in, monthly fees doubling, and all the time and headache I have spent dealing with this company the HBO max says expired AGAIN. I call again and I am told that actually I should never have been promised the HBO max because I didn't get the correct speed for the promotion so that expired as well. At this point I'm fed up and over it. NOBODY knows what is going on and either the customer service center is really slacking or it is time for some new procedures. So because I got scammed by an AT&T rep I have had to cancel my service and be charged an early termination fee in services that were fraudulently represented to me. There is NO WAY they can track down the employee that sold the service to me at my door??? I don't believe there was no name attached to my acct to credit the salesman. Let's play their game and say that's the case, after all the times I have talked to customer service there is no documentation of what I have been told and promised?? There is no way for this company to look back and see how long this has gone in and the times I have been assured the issues were fixed but yet weren't and I call about the same thing??? I find this absolutely absurd and I am furious with this company, the time I have had to put into getting this resolved, and the money I am wasting on this in the meantime. I assure you one thing you will see me on every forum sharing my experience with AT&T so that nobody else makes this mistake. Let the sales reps come to my neighborhood again telling me the great deals my neighbors are taking as well and offering false promises. I can assure you I will be right behind them WARNING my neighbors about the so called "deals" even though I am sure they will hear about it before the reps make their rounds. I intend to find out more at the neighborhood block party on the 4th and see if anyone really did fall victim to this as well. As for now let this be a lesson learned and NEVER EVER answer the door for these lying sales reps! In the meantime if anyone can give me advice on how to possibly avoid these cancellation fees I'd really appreciate it. I know AT&T expects to lock the customer into these contracts but doesn't feel they are obligated to fulfill their end of the deal.

The first thing you need to know is that the person who showed up at your door (aka D2D) was NOT an AT&T employee but worked for a third party solicitation company. Yes, they present themselves as actual AT&T employees but they are not.
Unfortunately, they promise the moon to get the sale. So yes, please warn your neighbors. The only assured deals are those that are available on the website (note: Uverse is no longer being sold).
There is no 'lifetime' deal for HBO and/or HBOMax. You have access to HBOMax if HBO is included in your TV package (U450). HBOMax is included with certain levels of internet and wireless service.
Again, please warn your neighbors about UNSOLICITED sales people that knock on your door. They are not AT&T employees and are reported to be rather unscrupulous.
I have this posted on my front door.

This has gone on since April of last year and it is all AT&T, the whole uverse direct TV thing confuses me. I know when I call it is AT&T and my bills come from AT&T. I know my screens all switched over and say DirecTV now but I also have internet (if that makes sense). I was not having any other services installed he was making rounds through the neighborhood, I was incredibly sick that day and he was not leaving. Eventually he did leave with the agreement that I was very sick and couldn't talk and another time might be better. I meant another day but he literally meant another time, went up the block and back down to my house. It is disappointing that AT&T let's them walk around selling these services when they are not employees. It unfortunately makes more sense but maybe these salespeople should be held accountable for the false promises or not be allowed to offer locked in contracts. Thank you for your help.

UverseTV and DirecTV and DirecTV Stream are all different services. I'll try to explain so when you are talking to your neighbors, you have the facts.
Your bill will say which service you have. I have UverseTV and receive service through a modem. My bill says "UverseTV" and the package that I pay for (ie: U200/U300/U450).
AFA avoiding a cancellation fee, you can file a complaint with the BBB. Those are handled by the OOP. Whether or not they'll let you cancel with no penalty is another thing.
