Customer Service in the Philippines
Why is that AT&T uses people in the Philippines for customer service. I have nothing against the Philippines or its people; we have Filipinos in our family. My complaint is that I have a hard time understanding the people answering your phones and when one is having a problem, not being able to hear what the tech is saying only compounds the aggravation. I can hear lots of people talking in the background and I'm straining to hear what the tech is saying. Just asking.

AT&T Should find a better customer service call center company in the Philippines that is not owned and operated by big companies.

There is a way AT&T can elevate the performance of their contact centers in the Philippines if they would open their own in-house centers rather than relying from BPOs. There are already a number of competitors who had done this in the past and had kept it that way until today.

Part of the reason you're having a hard time with overseas call centers is the voice quality, less so the accent. If ATT were able to get better internet call quality, you'd be able to understand them.
When my CS calls get routed to call centers in the Philippines, I seem to get better customer service than the call centers in the US. Not too long ago, I was promised something from a US call center rep. It did not happen. I called back the next month and reached a call center in the Philippines, I got the requested results finally.
I can tell from the line quality when it's an internet call vs a native cellular call. I'm not sure why I get better customer service from the Philippine call centers. I'm guessing the workers there care more about their jobs than the workers in the US. I say dump the US call centers and lower my ATT wireless bill.
Yes, the best solution would be for ATT to run it's own call centers in the Philippines, instead of relying on BPO's where line/voice quality is spotty. I also agree with the background noise that's associated with some of the BPO's used.

I had terrible experience today. First, she couldn't even address my question and was repeating the answers again and again. And later she asked me to set up the security question. The way she asked me is "what was your answer of the followings." NO. It is not the right express to ask me to set up the security question. She should have said " In order to process your order, you need to set up the security question. Please pick up one of the following questions and provide us with the answer.". Isn't clear and easy? Totally gave up on her. This stupid conversation took me 40 minutes.

Ridiculous phone quality , language barriers and had to initiate 7 calls , 2calls were dropped , and was routined several times to other people, including managers . Was advised I could not have a US representative, but they "would make note of " my request for the next time.
There best not be a next time.
My problem remains unresolved after 3 hours today.
I have bundled expensive services with his company for decades -_there are too many other options for quality service today....competition is a good thing!!!! Customer service rating for this 2week long issue is extremely poor!-unacceptable . I would suspect their NPS scores are very poor.

"I have nothing against the Philippines or its people; we have Filipinos in our family."
Nobody cares about your virtue-signalling in current year, and it's irrelevant. Yeah, you have a lot of black family members and have nothing against Wakanda either. Don't trip over yourself. Do you think that the Japanese would be okay with calling agents in the Philippines if Filipinos spoke Japanese?
It is expected that you would have customer service in the same country in which both you and the company reside. I'm sure there are a lot of Americans who want a after hours or weekend job. As with India, it's about (more) money, money, money. Filipinos learn English in school and (most) speak it better than Indians. Both accept low, low wages, so it's obvious why ATT, and a lot of other American companies, are now using call centers in the Philippines.

I agree...don’t understand why these great American companies don’t hire from their own backyard. Plenty of folks need jobs here. I too have nothing against Filippinos but have trouble understanding the reps on the phone. They appear to be reading from scripts and sometimes never get around to answering my questions. Very frustrating.

You know why? I will give you few examples so listen, Do you think all of your things in your house are made in US? Most likely made in china, Why? Because of the labor cost, Also for call centers, labor cost in the Philippines is lower than US and do you think AT&T did not think to build a center inside us before overseas? Trials and errors baby, Many centers in US were getting closed know why? Fraud Rudeness being escalated by your fellow Americans so that's why thousand or millions were homeless and jobless In the US. All Telco in the US has a center in the Philippines
Sprint, T-Mobile at&t Verizon, Even amazon ebay Netflix,
So if you want to talk to an American agent, easiest way is to go to your local store because there is no assurance that you can talk to American agent nowadays,

At&t's customer service located in the Phillipines, is basically useless. Clearly the problem is with AT&T corporate and not the call representatives. Based on my interactions with them over the years, AT&T seems to connect to the call center with a tin can and some string, it's almost impossible to hear them clearly through all the static. Then once you get someone on the phone AT&T seems to train them for approximately 30 minutes. They teach them to read a script and that's it. Even worse the tech support agents in the Phillipines have never TOUCHED OR SEEN the equipment they are diagnosing. And to make both customer and agents lives even worse, at&t doesn't trust the customer service or tech support agents in the Philippines, with any responsibility or access to important and sensitive systems. So they tell you they are the only agents who can help you, but in reality if you wait 6 hours to talk to a USA rep, the rep can actually see confidential information, and do things that affect credits/billing. I refuse to speak to the Phillipines anymore, after multiple times having them cause massive problems to my account and break more than they fix.
Oddly one time I did get connected to a European call center, that was able to take care of a simple request, even if her french accent was a bit tricky.
