Called 3 times re U-verse bill, given 3 different answers, now we’re done with U-verse

So in December we called about renewing the discount on U-verse that we had had for the previous year, after receiving a bill with a higher rate. I talked to someone in the Loyalty Dept. and was given an offer that was to be $10 a month higher than the one we had the prior year. I was told that the offer would remain open until Jan. 31, but that the new rate would be in effect in January if I didn’t call before that - but we could still call in January to accept the offer, it just wouldn’t go into effect till February. With the holidays I didn’t get around to calling till Jan 8, and I don’t recall being told there was any problem - I confirmed the rate would be $10 a month more than it had been the prior year. (I also shared the conversation with my partner - if there had been any problem I would have told him but we both believed we had locked in the offer for the coming year). So when we got our bill in February and it was still $50-$60 more, I called again, and was now told there were no notes in the system about the offer being open till Jan. 31, and moreover, I was told I had rejected the offer when I called in January. I understand that AT&T thinks we’re liars but at this point we feel ready to give Hulu Plus or Spectrum a try so we just canceled the service. This has just been too aggravating. Sorry, not really expecting anything here, mainly just venting. I’ve also posted about this on our local Nextdoor.

Keep in mind that once you leave U-verse TV, there is no coming back: new subscribers (or even returning subscribers) are not accepted.

So, you might want to be sure that you're going to be happy with your new provider before throwing the switch on U-verse TV.

Is that why they don’t appear to give a rats (Edited per community guidelines) about losing subscribers (or are apparently creating issues that cause them to drop off)? What about direct tv?

U-verse TV is technically owned by DIRECTV, though AT&T still manages U-verse TV due to the requirements in infrastructure, etc.  AT&T "only" owns 70% of DIRECTV, making it an independent company.  DIRECTV offers a declining satellite business (they've announced the intention to not launch any more satellites) and a streaming business, DIRECTV stream (which used to be AT&T TV, nee DIRECTV NOW).  But you can still order either DIRECTV-branded service.

Yep, it is typically very hard to get any discounts on U-verse TV or DIRECTV (satellite) outside of maybe a bundle discount with AT&T services.  And they will push DIRECTV stream on you at every opportunity.

Interesting. We did get contacted by DirecTV with some kind of discount offer but we weren’t sure it was legit. And we did get that discount offer from ATT in December which we haven’t been able to get them to acknowledge (I guess we should have immediately accepted it instead of waiting). So do you recommend accepting the new desk which is $50 a month more than what we’d been paying; looking at DirecTV; looking at Spectrum; or looking at Hulu Plus?
