AT&T WON'T CANCEL MY SERVICE!!!!!!

I have been a Uerse member for YEARS. I finnaly move out of their service area and have been trying to cancel my service since October 2015. I sent back the equipment over two months ago and it still says I'm past due.

I have already started recording phone calls to document my experience, and if this goes on my credit, I will be furious. Not only do I not owe them moeny, but they owe me money. This will be my 5th or 6th attempt to cancel.

Why won't AT&T cancel my service? Do they expect me to ever go back to them after this?

Is this a reoccurring problem for others?

PLEASE HELP ME!!

I still have not been contacted by a manager after completing the form. Just an email saying she didn't want to call me at 10:30 pm, which is too late, I agree. Can I PLEASE have a manager call me during normal business hours Monday-Friday 10:00am -5:00 pm?

I am not asking for a lot here.

*** - This is the number I need a phone call on. Monday-Friday, 10:00 am- 5:00PM

I rarely post blog messages but AT&T U-verse has driven me to that level of frustration and anger.  We moved in August 2015 and called and closed our AT&T account.  When we didn't receive instructions on how to return our equipment, we called again a couple weeks later.  The customer service rep saw in the history that we had cancelled but saw that it hadn't gone through...she assured us she took care of the matter and provided equipment return instructions.  I returned our equipment via UPS and still have that receipt.  We continue to be billed for nonexistent services.  My husband has since called 2 more times to ask why we were continuing to receive bills in January 2016 for service cancelled in August and equipment returned in August.  The last call he made he was promised a return call that day, which he never got.

Now, I have had 2 calls from debt collectors...AT&T actually owes us $.  I am so frustrated with having to initiate multiple calls to AT&T who clearly can't process everyday transactions and because of that could possibly be affecting my credit.  How is this company still in business?  I have never sued anyone, but I am seriously considering it because I'm not sure how else to get AT&T to properly correct their mistake.  Is there a process anyone could recommend I follow to resolve this matter?  Calling them clearly isn't working...

@p_hsing   Contact ATT Customer Care on the link in my signature below.

Send them a Private Message, on this link, and they should be able to give the help needed to solve your billing/credit bal problems.

Include your name, account #, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.

Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply. They can do more than any phone rep and stick w/it till it's done. Good luck 😉

That is the number we've called 5 times (5th time was today).  We again got assurances that AT&T will fix the matter.  Because I don't trust AT&T given the same assurances the last 4 calls we've made, I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in the meantime.  I just don't understand how AT&T operations can be this unreliable.

@mibrnsurg provided a link to contact someone via Private Message, not a number. Unfortunately, there are sometimes issues with orders going through, but if you send  a message as he suggested, you should be able to get more information.

It sounds like my issue may have finally been resolved... after about 110 days from my first attempt. I will know for sure in about 7 business days.

You need to file a complaint online through the forum to get someone who might actually try to close your account.

Good Luck!

Me too! AT&T won't stop billing me on a closed account!  I have spent at least 20 hours on the phone with them. They have cancelled 4 of my 5 lines on my family share plan  I paid my closing bills yet this continues!!! What should I do?

AT&T kept charging my credit card twice (once for my Dad, once for my own account) after accounts were closed, to the tune of $2000 one time and $2400 the next. Then they made it impossible to get the money back - I had to talk to 30 call center agents the first time before filing a notice of dispute that finally got it resolved (but took months). Their latest scam is to tell you they can only go back 60 days. What a crooked scam, with the intent of keeping your money or delaying giving it back.

To get past their incredible bureaucracy and intentional obfuscation tactics, file a Notice of Dispute. It takes a long time, but eventually will get you to a real person (lawyer) who, in my case, was fair and eventually got me a refund. The form is here:  https://www.att.com/support_media/images/pdf/Wireless/1239368042948.Notice_of_Dispute_Form.pdf

I will never, ever, ever use AT&T again. I used to think Comcast was bad, but it pales in comparison to what I have been through with AT&T. I hope some Finance guy gets fired for this.

These comments worry me

I called Att to cancel all services today at around 10am. When I called back in the afternoon noon just to make sure it was done it was like starting all over again ...long holds.  I waited about 15 minutes to get supervisor on phone to give me reference # for call.

The supervisor said  that the service could not be turned off immediately, however would "poof" turn off by midnight...

It's 12:23am.   Cable is still on.. why are holding my hostage?

AT&T WON'T CANCEL MY U-VERSE!!!!

I just moved and was not able to transfer my U-Verse service (at the time I would have liked to) and scheduled to have my service cancelled on 4/18/19. Since then, I have talked to 7 different people all promising that they will get this "error" figured out within 24-48 hours, but that they are not able to cancel my service for me because this "error" won't let them. I have transcripts of conversations that my service was to be cancelled 5/10/19, however, every time I call somehow my "ticket" was not received by the IT Department for them to work on this "error." This is the WORST customer service I have EVER experienced. I am going to report this to the Better Business Bureau and make reviews on other platforms. At this point I'm ready to cancel my cell phone service to because this is ***** ridiculous! I felt like this whole "error" thing was bull, but now seeing that MULTIPLE people have had the same experience with cancelling I KNOW is it is complete bull!! [Per Guidelines:  Keep it Relevant and Appropriate].

Same thing is happening to me. They keep saying they can't cancel my U-Verse TV because of an error message. I have spoken to countless people over the course of 3 weeks all of which have made promises to me that it was being fixed by their "back office" and that tickets have been created and in 8-10 days it would be fixed, but nothing. Every single time I am told the same thing and super double extra triple assured that the person I am talking to will call me back with updates. Yet, I have never been called back once. They blatantly lie to you. They make you trust them and assure you that they feel your pain and will truly call you back within hours or days, but they do not. I am in shock at how this company is allowed to get away with this. The empty promises of return calls is what gets me the most. When you call back asking to speak to the name of the person that made you the false promise of a call back, I am told that they cannot transfer calls to these people (basically as if these people never really existed and the person I was previously speaking to days before was like a make-believe person). I literally was in tears on the phone with them today. It still has not been resolved.

ATT is a SCAM and wont let you cancel service.  First, you cannot cancel online, or via email or chat.  Additionally, there is nothing on their website that tells you how to cancel service.  I called the only number I could find, waited a long time then finally was told I could not cancel at that number, so was provided another number to call to cancel.

In April I called and paid off a phone and asked to cancel the service.   In August I  became aware that the line had not been cancelled, so I called again and asked for it to be cancelled.  It is now September and the line still has not been cancelled.  I am currently filling out an Arizona Attorney General complaint, and will record my next call with ATT, and push this complaint - if this is not illegal it should be.
