AT&T charging for services not provided

I was part of a group that owned a condo in Edisto Beach, SC. There are 13 shares. We were using AT&T U-verse. As manager of the group AT&T used me as the owner because they would not use the group. I sold my share of the group in June 2019. The group continued to use U-verse under my account and payed until they returned the equipment on Dec 17, 2019. I then received a bill for services on June 4,2020. AT&T continued to charge for services that they could not have provided because there was no equipment to receive the services. They are now threatening to send the bill to collections. I sent a letter and call agents but nothing resolved. I believe the charges should be voided because there was no services provided after Dec,2019. Also if the account was not being paid, why didn't AT&T shut off account rather than let it go for 6 months.

Sending the equipment back doesn’t cancel the account and only you can cancel the account which sounds like you didn’t   Sorry but it’s a valid charge. I’m sure service was cut off before 6 months they just sent it to collections after 6 months

AT&T is "attempting" to collect an alleged debt of $565+ from 2019. We are Seniors 79 years old with very limited assets! We have provided documents to the AT&T Collection Agency AFNI in IL. This "same" 8 pages of documents were sent to AT&T web site (for specifically for Disputes) and Corp. Offices in 2020. Never heard back whatsoever, even after "trying" to get confirmations from AT&T! Now in 2022 AT&T is attempting to collect this "a;;edged" debt for services they NEVER provided after we CANCELLED our account as our documents substantiate. When cancelled we went to TMobile, performed a trade-in and received new phones which is all we have used since joining TMobile. AT&T has "never" provided any itemization or "proof" that our cancelled account was used or any AT&T services were provided. AT&T has had these documents in their hands since the alleged debt was sent to us! Now, after two full years this has reappeared via AFNI Collection Agency, who was provided our redundant 8 pages of proof of cancellation and that on cancellation we NEVER RECEIVED ANY CONFIRMATION FOR CONTINUANCE OF THE AT&T "CLAIM"? We are an old couple 78 years old Seniors and do not have any "attorney" on retainer like AT&T who most likely has thousands. We have tried to resolve this issue with AT&T but so far (now) there is only AT&T's use of pressure on us to just pay their alleged "demand" of fees for services not provided. We may be old, but not stupid, and while we try to get the requires full itemization and "proof of use" on phones we do not process since our day of cancellation and immediate move to TMobile. We find AT&T to be uncooperative and using unproven claims against us and totally unprofessional as a multi-national mega-giant. We have nothing but while we have "tried" to get AT&T to respond to eliminate this AT&T error and move on, they insist in doing "power-moves" to intimidate us into meeting their demands. We have tried and now we have this AFNI Collection Agency. Yes it will cost us to hire an attorney, loose unfounded funds from our limited retirement account , and try to take on AT&T and their hundreds of attorney's on retainers. We have no reasonable way to go but to challenge AT&T through the legal system and public forums that will substantiate our documented submissions to AT&T.

There is no explanation for "It must have at least 1 characters" at the bottom of my post? What does this mean and where does the "character" go???
