Hi there, visaman1966!  Wait! Don't go just yet. Give us a chance to explain.

We do know that blackouts are not fun to deal with, but they are very common in the life of a TV provider.

AT&T is a provider, not a broadcaster.  AT&T does not hold the "air rights" to the programs, channels, and events. The channel broadcasters do. In other words, the channel broadcasters of ABC, NBC,CBS own the broadcast rights.

There are certain times, when a blackout is imposed upon the broadcaster externally. Take for example sports. The leagues of NBA,IHL,NFL and even MLB can restrict the broadcasting of a sporting event exclusively to a channel. When it comes to local sports,  there is an alterative channel that could be broadcasting your sporting event, like ESPN or even your RSN(Regional Sports Network).

If it is not a sporting event, then it is called a program blackout. That means that the broadcaster has chosen not to broadcast the program, even though it is listed on your guide.

There is one more type of blackout and that is a device blackout. Normally this comes into effect when dealing with streaming, but the same is true. Devices can be restricted when it comes to broadcasters.

It all has to come down to agreements that are made between broadcasters and the parties that are involved.

We here at AT&T try our best to keep the programming that we provide, free from blackouts the best that we can, they do happen.  All TV providers get them.  For more information, you can take a look at the Game Blacked Out on U-verse TV article.

If you do not wish to stay with AT&T and would like to cancel your service you can dial 1 800-288-2020 and you can speak to "Retention."

If there is anything else that we can do, please let us know and we can help you the best that we can.

Thank you for using the AT&T Community Forums
