Series manager recording episodes from "All Channels" instead of 'first run only'

A response to this question was to the effect that the default is to record programmed episodes from "all channels". My question is WHY??? If a series broadcasts on ABC, and I set it record 'first run episodes from ABC', why does it REPEATEDLY pick up and put all streaming episodes back on my DVR? Why does it do this for multiple series at a time, leaving me with 5% of recordable space? This is a programming flaw that needs to be corrected, not explained.

Hi there. We appreciate your feedback on the recording functions. If you need to record single seasons, you can follow these steps:
-Press the "GUIDE" button
-Choose the program to record, press INFO
-Select "All Seasons"
-Select the season to record
-Press "RECORD(R)" button

If you need to record only the new episodes, follow these steps:
-Press the List button.
-Press Up Arrow to highlight "Recording Manager"
-Choose "Recording Manager" and press SELECT
-Choose "Typical Recording Preferences," press SELECT
-Select "Episode Type"
-And click on "Only New Episodes"

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, though, every one of my 38 series being recorded is set for "Only New Episodes". And yet, somewhere between 2/3 and3/4 of the way through a show's season, the DVR will suddenly pick up all of the episodes for the current season from the 'on demand' channel for that network, and record them back into my DVR. I have cleared multiple episodes from a dozen different TV shows in the past week. Some of them have been repopulated by the next evening. This has been going on for a few years, tbh, but I've now become fed up.
