Rangers Sports Network Is Live

Attention TX Rangers fans in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and eastern New Mexico.  Rangers Sports Network on Channel 677 is now live for Satellite customers! It'll be live on DIRECTV via Internet shortly, and viewable on the DIRECTV App tomorrow, March 18th.

I'm having trouble viewing the new Rangers Sports Network channel despite being a Choice subscriber and being within the viewable area (Louisiana). I can see the channel in my Guide when viewing on my TV but when going to the channel, it says I'm not subscribed.

For what it's worth, the channel is not present in the Guide when using the DIRECTV app.

Will it populate soon, or is something else going on?

@ratmantate sorry for not seeing this sooner.  It fully populated for DIRECTV Satellite and STREAM customers on 3/17/25.  It was made available via the app on 3/18/25.  Are you still having issues with seeing it?

Yes, I still cannot see it. When tuning to the channel, it says I'm not subscribed even though I have the Choice package and should be in the regional area (Louisiana).

I've tried resetting my receiver but that didn't fix the issue. The channel 677 is not visible at all in the app.

Any ideas?

NOT SO! Not only does it NOT work here in Lewisville TX (75077) on this, the 20th of March, but cannot be added online or over the phone. The Customer Service 800 number has a recorded message, but the "ADD" function on the phone does not take input, and the channel cannot be added online. A call to Technical Support reaches an offshore call center whose information says this channel, known to them as the Longhorn Network, was discontinued in November of 2024 and cannot be re-enabled.

I've been paying for the Sports Package for years, but the website STILL does not show exactly what channels are included! When I first subscribed to this package, I had to get a technician to enable many of the channels individually.  Apparently, THIS channel cannot be similarly enabled because the Tech Support guys say they are not allowed to enable a "discontinued" channel! They are CERTAIN their information is correct and the information above DOES NOT EXIST!

Thanks everyone for sharing this information.  Channel 677 isn't a RSN but a direct delivery from the MLB TX Rangers to DIRECTV based upon the in-market territory of the team and what is considered out of market that DIRECTV offers via MLB Extra Innings.  Our support team will be reaching out to each of you to further investigate.

Frankly, the Sports package and the Whole House feature are the only reasons I still subscribe. Movies have more advanced audio options from the streamers and I can get locals over my antenna. Twenty-three years at an average of $200 per month is a BIG investment in a service that is so very, very difficult to work with! (One call center rep some months ago couldn't understand why anyone with nine TVs would be upset if one receiver didn't work. Admittedly, she may have had a point.)

I just spoke with a Customer Support specialist who tells me she has a memo saying that the channel will only be activated on March 27. I suspect that the Rangers will not be happy about paying their broadcast team for Cactus League games that will not air in their target market!

@REM006 Thanks for sharing the info. Activation on 3/27 is fine, I just need it in time for regular season broadcasts.

I hope that information is right. All we get is the run around.  We tried again last night. Will look on 3/27. Here’s hoping it works.

For what it's worth, I'm able to view the channel and the game broadcasts now. I believe the trick was refreshing my receiver by logging into my account online and choosing that option there. This is not the same as resetting the receiver, which you can do by pressing the red button on the machine or choosing that via the on-screen menu.

It's my understanding that resetting the receiver fixes things like pixelation, audio issues, etc. while refreshing the receiver sends a new signal to your satellite, which can fix things like missing channels.

I hope that helps.

The channel 677 shows up on the guide, but I get a message saying i don't this channel in my package. We have had Direct since 2008 and we have the sports package well. I hope the channel is available on Thursday 3/27/25, Opening Day.

Ch. 677 shows up on the guide, but was not on last night. I got a error message stating the channel was not in my package. I have had Directv since 2008, Extra package which doesn't even show up on the available packages. I also have the sports package. I hope the channel is available on Thursday, 3/27, opening Day.

It gave me the same message. You do need the Choice package or higher; if I understand correctly, the Sports package does nothing for you. I would definitely log into your DIRECTV account online and hit the 'Refresh My Receiver' link. I believe that's what fixed it for me.

In the 600s. (Ok, RSN)

Is affected by in-market or out-of-market rules. (Ok, RSN)

Not an RSN. (huh?)

Does this function any differently (to the consumer) compared to an RSN? (i.e. in-market vs out-of-market, Choice or higher with RSN Fee, Sports Pack for lower packages)
