Why does DirectTV Stream use public IP to determine home location?

My family has had DirecTV Stream as our provider for over a year now and we've enjoyed it much more than other TV streaming platforms we tried, including the DirecTV Stream hardware boxes we use.

However, every single time our public IP from our ISP, Frontier, changes, the boxes limit us to 2 streams until we update our home location. As DirecTV Stream limits your home location changes to 4 per year, this has been a recurring issue with no solution in sight for us.

Call after call has to be made, nearly every 2 weeks to support to allow us a home location change just so we can use the 3 TVs we pay for.

I've made nearly half a dozen calls at this point, ranging from morning to night to reset our home location so we can use our TVs promptly.

I cannot fathom why DirecTV Stream uses the public IP to determine location when the average home ISP assigns IPs dynamically.

I hate to have to switch provider as all other providers we tried did not provide the channels we wanted at the time or provided a software experience as robust as DirecTV Stream's.

Has anyone had to suffer this same issue? Is there a solution? It's downright maddening.

What do you want them to use to determine your location? DirecTV Stream does not determine your IP location - that's your provider. Maybe you should tell your ISP to quit moving you around.

I understand that DirecTV Stream does not determine my IP location, however it is out of my control to determine what city my IP points to. It seems that it varies between several towns near me and I am unable to control when it dynamically changes unless I have a business plan with a static IP package, which I shouldn't need to own for DirecTV Stream.
