voice control on remote not operating DirectStream stations

Remote buttons work properly (change DirecTV channels), and voice commands work in general (will launch apps and do searches etc).  But if I ask to tune to a DirecTV channel, I get the message "I'm having trouble connecting to DirecTV right now".  For example, if I say "NBC" it will launch youtube.  This has been going on for a few days, so don't think it's a glitch..

@scotte625, we realize the importance of being able to use the voice control feature on the remote. Refreshing the connection between your remote and Gemini (DIRECTV) device can fix many problems. Here’s how:

 

First, unpair your remote from the device:

 

- Press and hold DASH (–) and APPS or Diamond buttons until you see the LED lights on the remote blink blue twice.
- Restart your Gemini (DIRECTV) device by pressing and releasing the red button on the side of the device. You can also unplug your device and then plug it back in.

 

When your Gemini (DIRECTV) device is back on, pair the remote again:

 

- Point the remote at your Gemini (DIRECTV) device.
- Press and hold FAST FORWARD and REWIND at the same time for 2-3 seconds. When they pair, you’ll get an onscreen message that your remote is ready to use.

What was the fix here? My mother in law has the same issue. We have set the box back to defaults, re-paired the remote and it still has the error about can't connect to DirecTV right now. Other voice prompts work no problem, (opening apps) it's just when trying to tune to channels on DirecTV.
