Using wired Gemini for DTV Stream

I recently subscribed to DTV Stream and would like to use the Gemini with ethernet connection instead of the "Air" version. I am cancelling Dish and have fiberoptic ISP so I will not have any signal over coax. Wi-Fi is weak where my tv is located but I would want a wired connection anyway. I have been told that I would have to use the Gemini Air device over Wi-Fi but no one has explained why. Can someone please explain why I can't use the wired Gemini as my streaming device? Thanks

You have to signup for Directv Stream (bring your own device) to use a Gemini Box. With Directv via Internet--that's the one that comes with a (paid for with a fee) Gemini Air. I don't think Dtv gives out Gemini boxes for their service anymore but you can get one from Ebay, Walmart, or Solid Signal but make sure to signup for the bring your own device version---Directv Stream at stream.directv.com ....and you don't have to sign a contract or pay device fees.

I recently signed up for Stream but have been told I can't use the wired Gemini unless I have satellite, I then have to use a DECA to connect to the ethernet port. No one has been able to explain why I can't use the wired version.

There is a also a Gemini box for Satellite. It's programmed for Satellite. Directv Stream bring your own device plan lets you bring your own firestick, roku, apple tv or purchased Gemini Box that is programmed for Dtv Stream. There are two Dtv stream services   Dtv Stream (byod) and Directv via internet. Which one did you purchase? If you have a contract and Gemini air device monthly fee you got the via Internet plan and can't use a Gemini box.

C71KW-400 OR C71KW-200

I found one on Walmart's site right now for 40.99. You can also get them from Ebay, Amazon and I think Solid Signal might also carry them

I contacted solid signal and they were one of the folks who said there wasn't a Gemini device that can be used with ethernet directly from the router. They said I had to use coax with the DECA and then connect to the ethernet port. I told them that I didn't have any signal on my coax, since I cancelled Dish, so that wouldn't work then they said I would have to the Gemini Air. That made no sense to me.

Then they were confused because there is also a Gemini Box for Dtv Satellite as well. Exact same box with different software. But Amazon, ebay and walmart has the Dtv Stream Gemini box with ethernet port.

I am an existing Directv satellite customer thinking about making the switch. I hooked up a Roku and added the Dtv app, signed in, and was able to stream Dtv via my current account. I assume that will all work the same if I switch (maybe new account/credentials? ). If I purchase the C71KW-400 and plug it into an ethernet port, sign in, etc., will it work the same as if I had just the Dtv Stream service? I'd like to try the box out before buying devices. I need one for digital audio out, and possibly another for the wife - my understanding is the app on the box is much better than other streaming devices and she's used to the Genie box. Thanks!

I purchased this OTT box from Amazon- AT&T C71KW Osprey OTT Client 4K Wireless Streaming Player Receiver OEM Packaging, Black (NOT the -400 so I don't know how it would work). I'm not sure why it's called wireless unless it has the ability to function wirelessly but I have it wired and it works great. It works much easier than any other streaming device that I have seen or used. Not sure why Dtv doesn't sell these new and with their branding.

You can't use Dtv Satellite credentials on a Dtv Stream box--Gemini you are talking about. It's for Dtv Stream only accounts

Thanks for the replies. So, I can't test with my satellite account. I may have to run satellite and streaming in parallel until I get things figured out device-wise. The Directv app on the Roku seems to work fine, so I may go with those for other TVs (unless anyone has a more preferred suggestion).

To clarify something I saw in an earlier post - if I rent (or sign up and get the first one free) the Gemini Air, I can't use the C71KW-400 on that account? It has to be BYOD? Thanks again. Just trying to get this sorted out before I switch. I'm looking to lower the bill and keep pretty much the same experience. Been with Dtv for 24 years.
