Using Directv app as a remote for TV app
I was told that I can use the mobile app to control Samsung TV's that don't have the Directv Genie remote. There is no icon for a remote when I sign in to the app. It only has a Cast icon and AirPlay. It also won't recognize my TV to Cast, though I can use AirPlay. I have deleted, reloaded. What am I missing?

Hi, @bobi73. We appreciate your effort in bringing this up. DIRECTV subscribers with receiver models HR20 and above can use a smartphone or tablet as a remote control through the app. Your mobile devices and DIRECTV receiver(s) must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. As I mentioned, there is no receiver. This is Directv Streaming only. The one TV that has the Genie remote connected cannot be controlled by the app, as well as my other TV's. So is this Directv's way to force you to pay the extra $7/mo for each remote? I was told very specifically that the app could be used as a remote, though it would not be as direct an interface. When I open the app, there is no remote icon like the information says there should be. My daughter, who has the satellite, gets the icon. Everything is on the same Wi-fi network. And the Genie remote won't control sound or channels (as has been noted in the forum for ages) so it isn't a very great option either. I'm still digging for solutions for that.

We appreciate your effort in providing additional information. Yes, you're right. The app can only be a remote control if your DIRECTV subscription has a receiver. However, since you have a DIRECTV STREAMING-only service, the app does not have this feature. Roland, DIRECTV Community Specialist
