Remote for DirecTV Stream app on Samsung smart tv?

I just subscribed to DirecTV Stream and loaded the app on my Samsung smart tv. The problem is the Samsung remote does not do a good job of navigating the app. Example, the guide button doesn't bring up the guide, etc.

There are several DirecTV remotes online but I'm not sure if these are only for the accompanying streaming box. I don't want the box since the app is already on the Smart TV.

Just what are you expecting from the remote?

Sorry, I don’t have the remote with me right now. My question is really if any of the DIRECTV remotes will work without having the actual DTV box.

If you are looking for channel numbers then no. Harmony makes a 3rd party remote.any have those.

Maureen, I'm having an issue with my DirecTV remote. It does everything but changes the volume of my Samsung Smart TV. I purchased a universal remote that works with Samsung but doesn't have the ability to access my DirecTV library, etc. UGH! I don't know why my DirecTV "remotes" suddenly stopped being able to control the volume of the tv. Are you using the right input? Sometimes that is the issue. I'm just getting very annoyed with this. If I use the new smart remote, it voids me using the DirecTV remote. UGH!

I want a remote that controls my Samsung Smart TV volume AND allows me to access all features of DirecTV including channel line-up and library. Prior to a few weeks ago, my DirectTV remote was fine. Something changed

I’m having the same problem. How does one go back to the Direct TV remote?

By “DirecTV remote” you mean the remote that comes with the DirecTV branded streaming device?  If so, that remote is only for that device - it allows control for the app running there. It also allows control of on/off and volume/mute for most TVs and sound bars. It isn’t going to allow you to control the app (access the guide, move around menus, etc.) for the app on other devices.

I sympathize with the complaint about the Samsung remote. When I voiced my frustration in this forum, the responses were mostly along the lines of blaming either Samsung or Directv for the poor quality of the Directv Samsung app. Not only is the implementation awkward, but truly buggy. I was getting multiple responses to a particular keystroke combination. Ultimately, I gave up and bought two Directv boxes. Now audio and video are out of sync on one tv, and on the other, the box keeps loading the Directv satellite app. Recovering from that problem requires reverting to the Samsung remote home button, because not a single button on the Directv Stream remote has any effect once the satellite app has loaded. Crap, crap, crap, and more crap.

If you have the directv box you don't use the app. The box does not load the app, you must have set up the TV to use the app. The directv box connects to one of the HDMI inputs on the TV just as if it were any other external device.

This has nothing to do with the ATT box.  Looks like you have the home seeting on the tv to take you to the app on the TV. You need to reprogram the TV so that "home" takes you to the HDMI input for the directv box. With the ATT box you do not use the app on the TV.

@curmudgeon42 The reason why none of the buttons on the Dtv Stream remote work is b/c you have the Dtv Stream Samsung tv app up. Anytime that happens hit the exit button on your Samsung remote. You need to uninstall the Dtv app from your Samsung. Home button on your Samsung tv remote--scroll to the left--apps---go to that then scroll down to downloaded apps and uninstall it.

This all makes sense - sort of. Thanks to all for putting me back on track.

Just installed the Directv Streaming app on my Samsung TV I have owned for 2 hours. I get the channels. I can change up or down channels, they appear to move in alphabetical order. How do I display a guide or go directly to a certain channel?

Agan - no external box, no antenna, I downloaded the Directv streaming app on my Samsung TV, which is what I am watching.Using the remote,  "Guide" switches me to SAMSUNG TV guide. And of course, there is no information anywhere I can find.

Thanks in advance,

drdumont,

assuming that you have the DTV Stream app loaded/running...

on my Samsung remote anyway, hitting the "down" portion of the "directional ring" (circular button with the "ok" in the middle) brings up a menu from which you can select "Guide", "My Library," "Settings," and a few other things. Believe direct channel entry is available from the button with colored dots and labeled, "123." I basically just started hitting random buttons on the remote as a means of figuring out what they did.
