Osprey DTVS box with Roku TV

I have a Roku 50" TV with an Osprey box. (Roku Select TV, not a 3rd party brand). What is the best remote control emulation to use? We have been using TCL (and tried others), but any IR functions are frustrating - sound, power. It works, but can be super inconsistent. I truly believe the IR receiver on the TV is not architected well (it is a new brand). Any advice of increasing the IR power, different controller emulator for the Osprey, or other? We sit only 8 feet away from the TV, have tried new batteries, a different controller (we own multiple Ospreys). Sometimes it takes pressing the buttons many times, and even going closer to the TV sometimes fails to help. This is also the 2nd Roku TV we have had in this spot, the first got a dark spot on the screen and they replaced it. They both have acted the same with regards to control function.
