No surround sound

I'm using PCs to access Directv streaming using Chrome and Edge. I cannot figure out why I don't have surround sound!

I figured it out. We have to add a tag to the desktop shortcut of Chrome or Edge, it works in both.

This is an example for Edge, but its the same tag for Chrome.

Go to the Properties of the shortcut, then to the Target. Add the italicized text, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --try-supported-channel-layouts

Make sure there is a space after the quotation mark, before the 2 dashes.

Restart the computer.

Boom, Surround Sound will now work in Chrome and/or Edge for anything that has it, including Youtube and DirecTV streaming.

Does your PC have surround sound? Why exactly are you using a computer over a streaming device like a DIRECTV STREAM box which definitely has surround sound over HDMI?

Yes, all my PCs are set up with surround sound systems. As to WHY? Well thats the way I choose to watch. I don't have a TV, I have several monitors and PCs that have TV tuners. I previously used an HD homerun device to watch TV thru the PCs, but it is limited to digital cable and I am dropping that service as it has become too expensive. I watch HULU, Netflix and Disney thru the PCs and all those services have surround sound that works but Directv doesn't..
