No picture on startup
I've been experiencing an ongoing issue that to date, NOBODY at AT&T can resolve. I'll turn on the box and there will be no picture or ill turn on the box and the video is unnaturally slow. Each department at AT&T wants to blame the other for the issue and each time I follow up with social media support, the answer is the same - our team is working on this. They've been working on this for over a month.
I've tried to get an internet technician to come out and run diagnostics on the internet, but that has proven to be impossible. The initial call to AT&T, I can only get an automated system that proclaims no problems with the internet. I hang up and call back and get to talk to someone, but it's the same deal - no problem with the internet.
I've changed the hdmi cable. I've changed from an ethernet cable to a wireless connection. Just today I proved that doesn't do anything to fix the issue, as I had to reset the box to watch TV. This is what I have to do each and every time the box doesn't turn on properly. The box has been replaced but that didn't help. I'm out of options and am getting little to no help.

Anything related to AT&T should be posted in the AT&T forum located here. www.forums.att.com This is the Directv Forum for Directv customers. Are you a Directv Stream customer? Have you tried your device on another TV and get the same result?

Which streaming device are you using - the DirecTV Gemini device or something else, like a Roku? And is this a new problem? That is, did it used to work as expected but isn't any more, or did it never work properly for you?

I am using a Gemini box, and this particular issue has been occurring off and on for a while now, It can literally be fine on initial startup and then later in the day when I watch TV again, I have to reset the box to make it work. Sometimes if there's video, it's unnaturally slow and requires a restart to fix it. When this happens, the remote is unresponsive.

Is the box in a place where it can get hot - possibly limited/no ventilation or sitting on top of an AV receiver or similar?

I don't know if this will work but it is worth a try. I would try rebooting your modem/router and your Directv streaming device starting with your modem/router and then your Directv device. There is always a possibility that your modem/router could be having an issue. If you think it is an issue of you not getting the correct internet speed you can download the Speed Test WiFi Analyzer to check your speed on your Directv Device. If rebooting on both ends does not work to clear up this issue then I would try a different HDMI port on the TV if available as there could be a loose connection and that is why it is happening intermittently on start-up. If at all possible I would also try this device on another TV to see if the same issue is occurring.

I run everything through a surround receiver. The HDMI cables have been plugged in and haven't been touched since, except for when I changed the HDMI cable.
100MB is the best speed I'm able to get. I think that my area has been forgotten about in terms of upgrades. It's unfortunate that I can switch to another Internet provider in the area and get much faster speeds (if it did come down to a speed issue).
I can usually tell when the box isn't going to turn on correctly as there will be a long delay after turning the box on before I get sound. Occasionally I'll see a few "scrambled" or "pixelated" lines stretching across the screen. The remote is unresponsive when this happens.
