New to directTV

I signed up for direct tv with rep over phone.  I was not aware that there were options for type of equipment or certain equipment needed for certain tv.  Received equipment  and hooked up 2 tvs. 3rd tv does not recognizing directv or anything when I connect to hdmi port.  Finally getting around to calling about service for 3 tv (about 8 weeks out).  I specifically asked service rep several times if smart tv is needed in order for service to work and was advised no.  Was given option to call geek squad at my expense (Directtv would provide me the number) or she is sure I can find someone to help me and rep would call me back in 2 hrs after "they" got hdmi plug-in to work.  This is BAD service.  I think smart tv is needed and am frustrated that this info wasn't upfront.  When I signed up I was asked if tv's were newer. I was NOT dvised that smart tv is required.  Is there a way to avoid buying new tv?   The one I have worked fine with dish service.

Smart TV is not required. The service works with all TV's with any supported streaming device. An external streaming device is preferred over using the dedicated app that is supplied with supported Smart TVs. Be aware that not all Smart TVs are supported. If the app does not come with your TV or is not available to download, then it is not supported.

What do you mean that DirecTV is not recognized when connected to the HDMI port? Is your TV pointing to the correct port?

Did you sign up for streaming through Directv, or Directv Satellite service?
