lighted remote
Is there an optional direct TV streaming remote with some sort of lightning so it can be used in the dark without turning on the lamp?

oops! I meant lighting. Optional lightning would be a serious problem!

I don't think there's a backlit version of the C71K Stream Box remote. However, you can use a lighted RC73 remote made for newer DirecTV Satellite receivers/DVRs. That will work with the C71K box.

At the moment DIRECTV STREAM service has only regular remotes. In case we find the option to add lighting remotes, so you can handle it in the dark without any problem, we would be posting it in all our platforms.
In case you have any other question, please let me know.
It's a pleasure to help.

You're right. I hadn't even noticed that my C71K remote is backlit. I usually use a Logitech Harmony remote.

The DIRECTV Stream remote doesn’t light up when you pick it up (only when you press a button). Which, is kind of too late to light up since whatever button you accidentally pressed is already hit by the time it lights up. :)
Does the RC73b that @litzdog911 mentioned light up when you pick it up? Or only when you press the buttons?
Also, how would you pair it with your stream box? Thanks!

@Ludwick577 that's unfortunate to hear. I think once you get used to that it's hard to go backwards for remote styles. Hopefully, @DIRECTVhelp can update this in the future as I see a lot of comments about this across forums and social media. Thanks for responding!

Use the RC73B remote from satellite. Walmart sells it for about 20 bucks. I have three of them I’m using with my DIRECTV Steam boxes. No voice commands but everything else works great, even better. No RF. Only IR.

Just recently switched from Dish to DirecTV and Dish did have some nice features like there remote was backlit so you could see in dark. Wished DirecTV had this feature.

Do you have satellite service or streaming? This forum is for streaming - if you have satellite you would probably get more useful responses by posting in one of the satellite forums.
If you do have streaming and are using the DirecTV branded streaming device: As noted above, the remote is backlit, but it doesn't light when picked up - only when a button is pushed. So you ideally would have to push a "harmless" button to get the lighting. And the lighting only stays on for 10 seconds or a bit less. They have a newer streaming device (a dongle rather than a "box") but I have no idea if they changed this aspect of the remote.
