Larger button remote for Directv stream
We are in our late 80’s. The remote that came with Directv stream has
small buttons and is all black. Difficult for seniors to use. Is there a better substitute for seniors?

Yes, absolutely. You can search Amazon for universal remotes to control streaming devices or refer to the link here which also included two remotes on Amazon that work great.

Hi there. Your comment caught our attention. We currently don't count on other types of remotes. However, we really appreciate your feedback. We have forwarded your suggestion to the appropriate team so they can review it and determine next steps. Luisa, DIRECTV Community Specialist

If you don't mind me asking, can you elaborate on what you mean by 'we don't count on other types of remotes?' Do you mean it in the context of simply not endorsing other third-party universal remotes without the DIRECTV trademark or did you mean that DIRECTV themselves does not make a bigger remote for these type of customers? Thanks for the clarification.

We currently manage the Gemini remotes for Stream service and the Genie and Universal for Satellite service. If you want, you can get 3rd party compatible equipment to install the app and control it with that device remote. DIRECTV hopes this information works! Luisa, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Thank you. I will definitely look into those remotes. Do I need special instructions to install them? Also, Directv told me I could not have two remotes to control the same system. My wife likes one on her chair and I like one on the other side of the room. Any comments?

Just ensure that the DIRECTV receiver you plan to control is set to IR mode. Then, both remotes (the one on the chair and the one on the other side of the room) will work properly. In order for me to help you get the receiver into IR mode, what is the receiver model?

OK, you have the Gemini Air. When you get the universal remote it should work by default with the Gemini Air with no modifications needed. I wasn't thinking straight when I asked for your receiver model, I forgot you had DIRECTV STREAM.

can I program a second remote without affecting the first remote?

We have only one option for a remote controller for the Gemini Air, which is the one that comes with it. You can pair more than one controller with the Gemini Air, but only one controller pair per TV. You can check all the information on how to set up your remote controller here https://www.directv.com/support/article/000095433 Please do not hesitate to reach out for any inquiry. The remote that came with the system is, I believe, RF. Does it have to be changed to IR if I want to use it and the new remote at the same time?

The remote that came with the Gemini Air uses Bluetooth. No need to change anything, the IR universal remote should work as intended when you get it. No pairing is involved.

I printed the article you gave me. The instructions are how to install the air device and how to pair the remote that came with it. The article has no instructions to program the second universal remote so I will have the original remote and the second remote functioning.
