I'm trying to fix quality drops; does the DNS setting on my router actually matter?

Occasionally, I get noticeable quality drops while watching stuff. It seems to mostly occur during live sports, but not always. It comes and goes at times too; it's not always a consistent issue.

More rarely, I sometimes get a channel buffer for a couple of seconds.

I'm using a wireless gigabit connection.

I've read some other posts and help pages that suggest custom DNS settings may have an impact on streaming. Is there any truth to this? For reference, I'm using the Google DNS settings.

If not, what else could I try?

What streaming device?

What's the actual download speed at your streaming device? It can be considerably slower than what your service claims.

I'm not aware of any reason why your DNS setting would impact this.

@kilev  Are you getting any errors or are you getting buffering? Please explain a little bit more about your Directv streaming box not connecting to your wifi.

The DirecTV box says "it cannot connect to the SSID. Make sure that the router is turned on and within range. and to restart your router." i restarted a few times.

Are you able to connect other devices to your wifi without issue?

I know that you said that you reset your router have you tried doing a red button reset of your Directv box?

I've read in the past about people using special characters (@#$%^) in their wifi password having issues.

Already did factory reset and troubleshooting with DirecTV. They could not get it to work.

There are no special characters in the SSID password.

I assume you are using Wi-Fi, correct? Have you tried Ethernet for testing?
