HDMI Timing Issue with DTV Stream Box, Sony OLED TV and Vizio Sound Bar (1 HDMI-ARC jack, 1 optical jack)

Vizio V51-H6 sound bar (1-HDMI-ARC connection - not eARC), Sony XR-55A80K TV and DirecTV streambox (STB)

STB connected to TV via HDMI (non-ARC). Soundbar connected to TV via HDMI-ARC. TV set to external audio. DirecTV remote turns everything on and controls soundbar volume. But, there is a slight delay when the TV turns on so the soundbar and STB both come on slightly ahead of TV. By the time the TV comes on and "looks at" HDMI-ARC, it gets confused and thinks there is no external audio so it switches to TV audio. Sometimes, it toggles back-and-forth. If I skip the STB and just use the Sony TV, HDMI-ARC works perfectly and turns on/off the soundbar without confusion.

I could correct this issue IF there was a way for the DirecTV remote to only control the soundbar volume and not have it turning soundbar off and on. This way, the HDMI-ARC would manage soundbar power on and off. However, there is no way to separate these functions so if I am controlling volume with remote, I am also controlling power on/off with it. So, been using optical audio to get around all this but would like to use the HDMI-ARC features. Any thoughts??

Hello @KSM99, thank you for letting us know about the timing issue you are experiencing. This will be great to add it, but this will depend more on the remote control's function. We hope this will be included in it. Thank you for contacting DIRECTV. Laura, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I am noticing the same issue with a Sony A80CJ, C71KW-400 and a Bose 500 soundbar. I have tried different settings on the TV and sound bar and found I must leave the soundbar on all the time to avoid the same issue.

The issue is not a DirecTV one per se; it is a "slow" Sony energizing issue. Glad to know I wasn't the only one! If there was a way to have the DirecTV remote just control volume, the HDMI arc could manage the soundbar but I don't see any way to separate on/off and volume options. I gave up and am using optical.
