Will a refurbished Gemini box work with a new TCL Roku TV? I don’t like the Roku remote and will happily pay $50 to get a better remote. Also, will the voice control work for my DIRECTV package on the Roku TV?

If you use the DirecTV streaming device (now called a "Gemini"). then it doesn't matter what TV you have (as long as it has HDMI inputs) since you will no longer be using the TV's "smarts". You would set the TV to the input the Gemini is attached to, and beyond that everything for the DirecTV Stream service (including voice control) is handled by the Gemini and its remote.

Since you are not a subscriber, you can not purchase one from DirecTV. eBay and others do sell the boxes. Not sure why you would want one, not being a subscriber. By default, (since the box is proprietary to DirecTV) it defaults loading the app.

When you subscribe to DirecTV Stream you can get a box from DirecTV or use your own streaming device (Roku, FireStick, Apple TV, etc).

You have to subscribe to DirecTV Stream. There is no migration option from satellite to stream. They are 2 different subscription services.

NOTE! DirecTV now has 2 separate streaming plans: the "legacy" STREAM and the new "via Internet". What they show on the directv.com home page is "via Internet". To find the STREAM webpage, you need to scroll to the bottom of the home page and select "DIRECTV STREAM" from the "More options" column in the link farm.
These 2 plans offer the same packages (content tiers), but are somewhat different (including pricing and promotions). From the point of view of this thread, a difference is DirecTV is offering the Gemini streaming device only to "via Internet" subscribers. New (or existing, apparently) STREAM subscribers can no longer get Gemini devices from DirecTV. They can buy them (used) on eBay, at some level of risk. Both STREAM and via Internet subscribers can use the other supported streaming devices (Roku, FireTV, AppleTV, or AndroidTV devices) as well as Android and Apple mobile devices and computers (using a browser). However, only the Gemini offers channel number for direct access to channels, voice control, and some other cable-ish features directly from the remote - the other devices require selecting channels through the program guide or other less direct means and some other features through selecting on screen icons, through menus, etc. It also appears only Gemini currently offers PPV.
via Internet subscriptions are more expensive than the equivalent STREAM subscription, but currently come with a 2 year price lock (and for most(?) subscribers, a "free" Gemini), while STREAM monthly pricing can in theory increase at any time, and generally will once a year. Each currently has a signup promo that is not necessarily available to all new subscribers.
Based on all this, I recommend you check out the details of the 2 plans carefully to figure out which one works out better for you before subscribing.

As an existing DirecTV STREAM subscriber (since February 2023), I just yesterday successfully ordered two additional refurbished Gemini boxes from the DirecTV site: https://www.directv.com/accounts/stream/addEquipment
