Gemini Air Auto Login; DIRECTV Incompetence
New to DIRECTV and recently moved to Atlanta. We got high-speed internet from AT&T and wanted to go with streaming TV instead of traditional cable or satellite. Enter the Gemini Air.
I signed up for DIRECTV, and they shipped me a Gemini Air. I plugged it in, followed the on-screen instructions, and then it tried to sign me in, giving an error that my username and password were incorrect. The issue is, I never entered a username or password! I clicked “OK,” and it immediately tried auto-signing in again, only to repeat the same error, over and over in a loop.
I called DIRECTV, and they had me do a hard reset and walked me through the setup again. After all that, it did the exact same thing. The rep told me the device was defective and shipped me a replacement.
When the new Gemini Air arrived, I installed it, but it had the exact same issue.
Frustrated, I called DIRECTV again. This time, the rep walked me through the reset process again, even laughed when I told him I’d already done it. “Trust me, it’ll work,” he said. Spoiler: it didn’t. He concluded that this second unit must also be defective and promised to send me yet another replacement.
Two days later, I received a new device—but this time it wasn’t a Gemini Air. Instead, they sent me something else, a flat device labeled C71KW-400, with no power cord, remote, or cables.
At this point, I’m convinced of their incompetence. I now have a Gemini Air and a C71KW-400, and I still have no TV.
Is anyone here able to suggest a different course of action? I’m hesitant to call DIRECTV again only to waste another hour of my time and end up with something entirely unrelated—maybe a replacement Volkswagen—anything but a working device that lets me stream TV.

Because you said that you have internet through AT&T that leads me to ask if your login for your AT&T internet account and Directv the same? If they are the same then using the same email address is the problem. Your Directv and AT&T accounts must use different email addresses as using the same one confuses the system making accessing Directv virtually impossible.

That makes almost zero sense. I’m sure you’re correct, my email is the same. I can use it on my phone, Apple TV, just not the Gemini. And why would two tech support people not know this? So much for a seamless customer experience across AT&T and DIRECTV (which is still majority owned by AT&T).

I am surprised that you would not be asked about that. This has been a known issue for a very long time. Hopefully, changing your login info will clear up the error and allow the boxes to log into your account.
