Finally switching from Uverse to DirecTV streaming
After having my most recent main DVR fail (Pace IPH8100) and have to perform a factory reset, losing hundreds of recordings, and having been told by the installer when I got the newer Pace DVR that Uverse was eventually going away and it wouldn't be possible to continue with it if we were ever to move, I have decided that since my DVR is nearlt empty this would be a good time to make the switch. Has anyone done this that could comment on the experience? I currently have the Pace DVR, with 3 Motorola VIP1200s and 2 Cisco ISB7005 wireless boxes. I assume I will be able to get those same type of boxes (wired/wireless) and I understand the DVR is in the cloud or something. I really don't have much information on the new system, and I guess I will have to call AT&T and inquire about changing. Just curious how much of a hassle it's going to be to switch.

Don't call AT&T. Call DirecTV (see numbers below). You can sign up for a trial of DirecTV Stream via their website, so no need to call.

With the DirecTV via Internet, how much is the fee for the Gemini box? I currently have 4 wired and 2 wireless Uverse boxes (one of the wired ones is the main DVR) that I need to replace. Can I purchase Gemini boxes outright to avoid fees? I'm not interested in the Gemini Air dongle.

We're glad you're interested in getting Gemini boxes. However, for new DIRECTV via Internet customers, a Gemini Air device is included in your subscription. Additional Gemini Air devices are available for $7/mo. Per device, they can't be purchased outright. Kenneth, DIRECTV Community Specialist

So I can't get Gemini boxes to replace my Uverse boxes? I want them to be hard wired like I currently have, and it seems that even the Gemini boxes can be used over wireless network if needed.

Good question. The old Gemini boxes can be hardwired through the LAN internet cable, but the device is no longer offered through DIRECTV via Internet. You're right, the Gemini Air devices can't be hardwired, but you'll only need to connect them to your Wi-Fi network, and you'll be able to watch DIRECTV via Internet on your TV.
