Downloading updates

It has been well over an hour and still updating 

Not that long for sure! Sounds like maybe a corrupt box. I would do a factory reset and try again. Hold down the red button for about 30 seconds. Box should do a factory restore. If still having issues then I would contact support. You may need another box.

Did you get your box through Directv? 

Mine was also taking over 30 minutes, called Directv, got great support. Told to unplug for 30 seconds, and plug back in, and it worked. Look for the progress bar turning blue (from white) and you know it is working. Only took about 5 minutes - max.
