DirecTV Stream not available on Sony TV?

I have the following Android based TV:

Sony - 75 Class - LED - X850E Series - 2160p - Smart - 4K UHD TV with HDR
Model: XBR75X850E
DirecTV Stream is not an option in the Google Play Store.
Is this an issue for anyone else?  Is there a fix?

I can get it on my Android phone and tablet.  Does anyone know if they are working on one for the Android TV?

Is there any way to force it on an Android TV?

No one here would know. We are all subscribers like everyone else. If they are they want say here in a forum. If it happens you will know like the rest of us. Will it happen? I doubt not in the short term.

If it weren't for NFL Sunday Ticket, I'd likely ditch DirecTV Stream, but it's a requirement to have a DirecTV product to get NFL Sunday Ticket.

Gotta watch my Vikings, even if they do (Edited per community guidelines)!

Android phone is not the same as Android tv. 2 different platforms.

Here is the definitive article on what devices DIRECTV stream is officially supported on:

https://www.directv.com/support/stream/article/KM1200941/

Sony TVs are not on it.  As said above "Android TV" is not exactly the same as "Android."  While the AT&T box actually runs a flavor of Android TV, that doesn't mean there is a generic Android TV app that you can install from the Google Play Store.

I would also suggest that paying extra for a "smart" TV is likely money wasted that was better spent on the streaming device du jour.  Because in a few years, the TV screen and electronics will likely still be working fine, but the "smarts" will likely be old and in need of replacing.  Might as well start with that streaming device out of the gate.

I side loaded the APK file I found off Reddit via the Downloader app. Works well enough.

I'm also considering ditching this service. I've been a Day 1 subscriber and have seen the price climb nearly $40/mo. For having so few integrations, I'm starting to see diminishing value..especially with the likes of Hulu Live TV and others integrating directly into Android/Amazon devices.

I've tried on both the Amazon Fire (different versions) and Roku, and DirecTV Stream is the only one that I have buffering issues with.  So, I was trying to remove the streaming device from the equation and just do everything nativity through the apps on the smart TV.

No buffering with Netflix, Prime or NFL Sunday Ticket on either of the streaming devices

I've switched from different WiFi routers that I have here in the house and have had the most recent Amazon streaming device connected via Ethernet.

I've got a 100Mbps fiber connection to the house with 100Mbps down and 50Mbps up with low latency.  It's just my wife and I at home, so the utilization on the Internet connection is low.

So, adding all this up, it appears to be an issue with DirecTV Stream and my Sony TV which is unfortunate.

Anyone think otherwise, or have something that I can try?

I talked to DirecTV Stream technical support and they did validate that they don't have an app for a Sony TV.  Bummer for my 75" hanging in the living room with buffering issues on Roku and Amazon Fire...

Tech Support's troubleshooting suggestion....call the Internet provider.

Or you can get a Dtv Stream box. I've had mine for 3 months and have not had one issue with buffering or waiting on live tv.

The Wi-Fi on the Amazon devices doesn't seem all that great.  My Cube improved immensely when I connected it via physical Ethernet cable.

Depending on the Roku model --u can use an ethernet cable with some of them. Wonder if OP tried that. I think there is also a way to use ethernet cables with Rokusticks and Firesticks.

My wife figured this out… on the Sony remote there is a circle with an OK button in the middle and up, down, left and right buttons…

to bring up DirecTV Streaming app, press the down button and then use the other buttons in this part of the remote to select what you want.

I write to share how to access the DirecTV Streaming app on a Sony Bravia tv.

We purchased our Sony Bravia tv from Costco in September, 2022, in time for the baseball playoffs.

We just started using DirecTV Streaming in July, 2023.

We were able to download the DirecTV app on the TV, and on our iPhones and iPads and windows laptop, and I could get the iPhone to cast to the TV but I could not figure out how to get the app to work.  It appears others were challenged, too.

Thankfully, my wife figured this out… on the Sony remote there is a circle with an OK button in the middle and up, down, left and right buttons on the circular part… this controls the access within the DirecTV app.

To bring up DirecTV Streaming app, press the down button…

… then use the other buttons in this part of the remote to select what you want.

Thanks,
Mike
