Directv Stream incorrectly believes I am "Not Connected To Home Network"

I have not changed my location, or my home network provider. or even my home network hardware.  However, Directv Stream occasionally decides that I am "Not Connected To My Home Network" and limits me to only two TVs.  This has happened 3 times in the past few months so now I am  faced with resetting my home network for the 4th and final time.  The next time Directv Stream decides I'm not connected to my home network, I will not have an option to reset until a year after the first occurrence.  The Directv Stream help desk insists that there is no way around this and no one I can talk to for resolution.  I am posting here because I have seen posts on this forum where Directv personnel have offered to work with customers to resolve this issue. I would like to stay with Directv Stream but I cannot do so if it will not support more than 2 TVs.

I have been told that this "Not Connected To Home Network" condition results from a change in IP address for my network.  Unfortunately, my home network IP address changes occasionally because the only home internet solutions that provide streaming speeds where I live are home internet devices from mobile network vendors. It is my understanding that mobile networks do not support static IP addresses, so my network IP address is subject to change. I am NOT changing my location or my home network. Only the address of the network is changing.  If Directv Stream is not compatible with mobile home internet solutions I strongly suggest that you make prospective customers aware of the situation instead of billing them through 4 resets then kissing them goodbye. However, if Directv Stream is intended to be compatible with mobile home internet, I would like to find a solution to this issue before I use up my 4th reset and am forced to find another TV provider.

Your home network is based on your CC billing address and the device IP location. Your ISP is indeed moving your IP address to unused ports. The service since conception has always used this mechanism to define location since conception, and there are no plans to make any changes. If you can not obtain a static IP address, you will be forced to endure this limitation, thus seeking another streaming service may be your best option. You are not alone in experiencing this issue.

Sadly, there really is no solution. Unless DirecTV Streams changes its policy of using your home IP address to determine its "home location", there's nothing much you can do if you can't get a fixed IP address.

Yet I see other posts on here where Directv personnel respond with an offer to assist.  If a static IP address is the only work-around, then Directv Stream should disclose that they are not compatible with mobile home network solutions in stead of selling a product that they know will not perform as advertised on these networks.

I guess you could say the same for the ISP. They do at least say the CC billing address and the location of the device. In return, they provide the service for the location. They don't deny the use.

The service works fine on "mobile home network solutions". It just has the same limitations as any other mobile network in terms of how many devices can simultaneously stream. I do wish, however, that they could come up with a better method of locking down the "home location".

As far as customers are concerned, the only way you could truthfully say the service "works fine" with mobile home internet would be if Directv Stream were to be up front in telling potential customers how it "works" with mobile home internet instead of letting them assume it works as advertised on all home networks. (a fairly logical assumption btw).

In any case, it's been nice talking to you guys but obviously a Directv employee is not going to invite me to discuss the situation as I had hoped. That's too bad.  I really liked Directv Stream.

Nothing that a rep could do anyways. They have heard the story many times. Good luck with your next adventure.

Why not do what YouTube TV does, somewhat.  Just allow Cell Phones to be used to set Home IP with precise location on to confirm it is the home address on file.  Each cell phone set resets the 4 allowable home network resets.

Not everyone has a cell phone. Also, you may not have cell phone service in the area. Why not just blame the ISP for continuing to swap IP addresses.

Those people without cell phones would be limited then, though I would tend to disagree--I highly doubt that a significant portion of those inclined to use DirecTV Stream over cable, satellite, or antenna options do not have cell phones.  But I of course could be wrong.

Far more realistic to allow a user to use a GPS-based device to remedy this, then expect ISP policies that have existed for 20+ years including well before DirecTV Stream came into being.  Ultimately, DirecTV needs to take the world as it finds it.

I don't overall disagree though, ISPs should offer static IPs.  And it would solve the issue here.  But this is the world DirecTV entered.

This is the world that you entered into with DirecTV Stream. This issue has always been with the service and well documented and discussed in the forums. A search would have clearly pointed out the issue prior to your subscription. Its not going to change. Either you will have to work it out with your ISP or you will need to seek another streaming option. Fair or not, that's the reality.

First, forget my ideas, all you have to do is contact customer service.  It gets resolved.  As for the idea that I should have researched the nuisances of a streaming services IP policies before joining, that is the dumbest suggestion I have heard in this forum.

To everyone else, contact customer service.

Your opinion, of course. Glad they were able to assist you.

This is 100% a DirecTV Stream problem.  Blaming the ISPs for using dynamic addressing is ridiculous.  Most ISPs do not offer static addressing for home service..  DirecTV Stream has chosen to use a signal that has proven to be unreliable.  There are better methods available to get a location signal.  This has happened to me a couple of times and the moment it becomes a problem for me, I will just cancel the service.

Then go ahead and cancel. DirecTV Stream is not going to change their policy of determining home location.
