directv stream box opens to directv satellite app
After pulling my hair out trying to use the DTV Stream app with my Samsung TV and remote, I bought a refurbished DTV stream box. Now, every time you turn on the TV with the Stream remote, it loads the DTV Satellite app (which I never downloaded anywhere). Then, not only is the picture choppy to the point of freezing, but the DTV Stream remote has no effect. None of the buttons do anything. I'm forced to dig out the Samsung TV remote, hit the home button, and select the DTV Stream app in order to recover.
Help!

There is only one app. Both DirecTV Stream and DirecTV satellite are combined into one app. Based on your subscription and credentials, determines what service s loaded.

Well, that doesn't appear to be what's happening. When I hit the home button on the TV remote, the highlighted icon (current app) reads, DirecTv, with a light blue color background. The icon for the DTV Stream app that I am familiar with (big letter 'D' with a darker, two-tone color scheme and a streak through it) is elsewhere in the app list, and when I select it, it loads and everything works normally. But I shouldn't have to do this every time. And the other TVs with DTV Stream boxes don't do this. Sounds like a call to DTV Stream support, as I don't see this particular problem anywhere else in the forum.

Where did you get the box? Sounds like a very old system.

Uninstall the Dtv Stream app on your Samsung tv. I have a Samsung tv and this doesn't happen to me. I uninstalled the Dtv app and haven't used it since I got my box. The reason why the Dtv Stream box remote doesn't work is b/c your Samsung tv is bringing up the tv's Dtv stream app

Instead of opening the DirecTV app or the DirecTV Stream app on your TV. Make sure you have the DirectTV Stream Over-The-Top Set-Top-Box connected to one of the TVs HDMI ports using an HDMI cable. Make sure it is also plugged into a working power outlet using the correct power adapter, there are two LEDs on the front that will light up. Finally, make sure you set your TV Input to the correct HDMI Input.
It sounds like you are currently using the DirecTV Stream app built into your TV and not the HDMI source that your DirecTV OTT STB is connected too.

Lots of developments in the last weeks, but no real satisfying solutions. First, a clarification: I had stated that the DTV Satellite app loaded when the TV was turned on. I now believe that’s not the case. The screen that loads showed a bunch of apps, including the DTV Stream app. Additionally, the screen showed a separate list of recently used apps. The first app in that list read only, “DirecTV” without any hint of stream anywhere, and with a different background color scheme than the Stream app icon. I now believe that, for whatever reason, the TV or Stream box or whatever software was active at that instant chose to display the Stream app in the Recent list with a different icon, making it seem as though it was an app distinct from the Stream app.
What hasn’t changed is persistent terrible behavior, no matter what configuration I have tried. I have three Samsung TVs of various vintages, and each configuration I try behaves DIFFERENTLY on each TV, and NONE of the configurations behaves appropriately. My ultimate conclusion is that the DTV “environment” (including both Stream box and app) was designed with grossly insufficient consideration for variations in TV architecture, and then tested with the same lack of consideration. I now have one TV that works with the Stream box only because I don’t watch recorded programs on it, another with a Stream box that has a persistent audio/video sync issue and plays badly with my A/V receiver, and a third TV that I’m running with the Stream app (gave up and returned the box). A single button push on that TV’s remote elicits various responses for no disernable reason. I repeat - crap, crap, crap.
Google Fiber isn’t available here, but I had it at my previous place. After I was up and running, they had a tech come in and resolve a few nagging issues, and everything was flawless after that. I asked AT&T about a tech, and was told that the product was strictly self-service. The solution AT&T offered to my issues? Cancel the service.
