direct tv stream remote always asks if I want to pair my remote

This has been on-going for over 6 months.   Each time I turn on my Sony TV with a direct tv stream box, I am asked if I want to pair my remote control.   When I have said no, I have lost comms from remote to tv stream box.   I have reset my direct tv stream box several times.  I have disconnected the direct tv stream from power for over 2 mins.  No success.   If direct tv is monitoring, please help me troubleshoot.  My spouse is ready to cancel and go to spectrum.  She is unhappy with other issues with her AT&T fiber/cell.
