Can DIRECTV STREAM be controlled from Google Home Devices?
My new DIRECTV STREAM system is based on an “Android TV” device, and using the remote I know it has voice commands such as “play CNN” and it will change the channel. But what I’d like to know is if it’s possible to use my other google home devices like the Google Home mini etc to control the TV via voice as well? So far my Google Home definitely sees the new box but it can’t control it except to play music on it.

I know that when I told my google home to pause family tv (name of DIRECTV STREAM device) it paused it. Tried a few other things and no result but I am going to mess with it this weekend

I could get it to do normal Chromecast commands but nothing like to turn on the captions or show the weather or anything specific.

I have gotten a few commands to work. Does anyone know if I can use a Google hub to change the channel? I.e. okay google turn the DIRECTV STREAM box to channel 5

I can change the channel but I am not sure if it is through a normal common or through my harmony hub. But it's flakey, and often does unexpected things like instead of cheap the channel but playing that channel on YouTube.

Yes mine does the YouTube thing too. I wonder if I should get a harmony hub but if you say it isn't reliable then it might be more frustrating than just seeking for the remote. Ease of use is a must for my wife

Every time I tell Google home to change channel on re River, it goes to some YouTube channel. What’s the fix? Is it wording? I’m not prepared to install Home Assistant and do full set up.
