August 2024, Looking at Sony Bravia OLED….any new support for DirecTV Streaming or need device?

Currently using the DirecTV Streaming “Gemini” plug in on a 2017 Samsung that doesn’t already have the DTVStreaming app.  I’m looking to buy a new Sony Bravia OLED, is there any new direct app support on these Sony’s…or still have to use the “Gemini” device?

I hear differing opinions……thanks for any help!

Hi, @Erion929. Sony Bravia TVs are currently not compatible with the DIRECTV App, so you still have to use your Gemini to continue accessing your programming. Here's the list of compatible streaming devices: How to watch the DIRECTV App | DIRECTV Support

Native tv apps (Edited per community guidelines). External devices are much better and the Gemini air dongle and Gemini box are the best ones so you already have a really good device.

Thanks, guys….good to know!  I won’t worry about it then, the Gemini works fine👍

Why wouldn’t a Sony Bravia be compatible?  It is a Google TV (formerly Android TV) device, which is explicitly on the “supported” list that the DIRECTVhelp rep linked to.  Android/Google TV has been been supported with a standalone app for about 2 years now.  (The fact that a support rep for a TV service is unaware what streaming platform one of the major TV lines uses is disappointing but not that surprising to me.)

@Jrandomuser….Well, (Edited per community guidelines), that makes sense, too 😅

98% sure I’m going with Sony, so will just have to check it out when I decide to buy.  As mentioned, I have the Gemini already for an older Samsung, was hoping to leave that one on….and not the new Sony…although Ludwick577 mentions the Gemini device likely works better 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a year old Bravia OLED smart tv and love it. There are all kinds of apps, support and help. Many items already added.
