Why is DirecTV still broadcasting Russian Television (RT on Channel 321)?

DirecTV is one of the only providers still allowing RT Network, an arm of Putin's (Edited per community guidelines) machine to stream into U.S. homes. WHY??????????

DIRECTV has contracts with the major TV networks, so they can't just drop a channel without notice.

This is not a major TV network.  It is RT television.  When I took Russian in college decades ago, we used to read Pravda (Russian for Truth) in class for practice.  It seems like RT has the same bent as Pravda!

I see that now. Either way, the same thing applies where DTV has contracts with them. 

Very good point.  Did that apply to OAN?  I'm sorry, I just cannot support a dictators aggression upon a democracy.   There is not justification or excuse.  This just seems like 1938 all over again.  And it seems ATT supports it.

@Juniper is correct. For OAN and AWE, those channels will continue to be carried through the end of the contract, but DIRECTV will not enter into a new contract.

Unfortunately yes, at least for now. If things continue how they are with Russia and Ukraine, they will likely pull the channel once the contract is up.

The EU has banned Russia Today (RT) and dircect TV should take this (Edited per community guidelines) off the air as Russia invades Ukraine.  I just watched the channel and it makes me sick. 

Why is DirecTV still airing the Kremlin’s media machine, Russia Today?  It is the mouthpiece of Putin and should not be airing in the US.  The EU has already taken measures to ban it in Europe.  AT&T needs to take a stand and support the people of Ukraine!

It's not a time to talk about "contracts" and being "fully informed". Russia will be liable for so many damages so these contracts are completely irrelevant. The main reason is that these dollars going back to Russia are stained with blood now and have to be stopped. Does anyone know the best way to reach out to address this?

It is time for DIRECT-TV to join the majority of the World and suspend if not REMOVE PERMANENTLY the RT CHANNEL from your List of Channels!!!

Actually, DirecTv CAN remove RT immediately by willfully violating its contractual obligations, dealing with the inevitable legal challenges at a later date in court.  There will be substantial financial consequences for DirecTv if it removes RT -- and perhaps even for the distributors of RT for pursuing their (Edited per community guidelines) against DirecTv -- but it is definitely within the power of both AT&T and DirecTv to remove Channel 321 from its schedule.  DirecTv will make a cost-benefit determination in this matter.  I suggest we increase the cost by either unsubscribing altogether or by reducing our use of premium DirecTv services.  Otherwise DirecTv will continue to follow its existing practices of ignoring these requests.  Recall that in the recent past DirecTv suspended airing the Bloomberg channel during a renewal fee dispute with Bloomberg.  Once that dispute had been settled DirecTv resumed broadcasting Bloomberg.  Removing RT is easy for DirecTv if it is willing to incur the eventual cost of breaching its contracts.  So, DirecTv, how will you weigh the rising costs of observing your contractual commitments with RT?

How can Direct TV Support the RT Television network? RT is a Russian state-controlled international television network funded by the tax budget of the Russian government. Russia is does not believe in freedom of the press amongst numerous others. 

Google and other platforms have already blocked RT. 

I would like to know if Direct TV is going to remove this network from its platform, if not I along with numerous others are going to cancel our subscriptions.

I fully agree, how can AT&T allow this channel to air? Their reply below is laughable.

The rest of the free world is sanctioning Russia but Direct TV will stand by its contract with a ruthless Dictator that is killing innocent people in Ukraine.

Is this really the values AT&T holds? We live with our contracts with RT which is a Russian State-Controlled international television network funded by the tax budget of the Russian government.
