Why is AT&T Censoring Conservative Channels?
As a former AT&T employee, a current customer, and a future pension recipient, I'm VERY concerned that AT&T has chosen to remove NewsMax and OAN from their channel line up. There are countless 30+ (?) "liberal" channels on my TV, and only 3 conservative choices... now that's down to one. It is not the job of a media company to censor what viewpoints are shared on their platform. When you upset 50% of your customers, bad things tend to happen. I'm looking for alternatives to my DirectTV Stream service as of today.

As a former employee you should know that these forums are full of customers like you.
I’m glad to hear you are looking for alternatives, that’s what I would have recommended

Why should AT&T pay them for their channel that is free, then have to pass it onto customers? It sounds to me that the move was a good financial move.
AT&T did not drop the channel from the line up, on their own, they were told to by NewsMax, when the two couldn't come to an agreement.

AT&T/DirectTV made a poor decision in dropping NewsMax and OAN. Half of the subscribing country is not happy with this business blunder.

@lou_do Agree. Why as a subscriber would I pay more to get something FREE. Besides, it was already free as offered on DirecTV and would still have been there. But they wanted money and DTV did not want to pay it. So Newsmax pulled the plug on the channel, not DirecTV.

Could care less. If I really wanted the content then I would find an option to get it. Just like my original reason for going with DTV, they offered what I wanted.

Small chuckle. I use the app's majority of the times.

Same, but for different reasons. Their entire CS and billing and payment system is screwed up because they use some 3rd party screening service, so even if their system accepts it if the 3rd party system known as “Cybersource” rejects it then Directv won’t accept your payment method. Good luck Directv, you’re going to lose a lot of customers.

Hmmm…. Why should DIRECTV give a better deal to CNN than the other news channels? Other providers also pay for Newsmax as their customers desire it in high quality in their package.

DirecTV (AT&T passed on mangament control to the new co-owner) didn't censor the channels. They provided them to us as given (unedited).
What they have done, is chosen not to do business with one channel at all (OAN) and go through negotiations with another (Newsmax) which have stalled out (and yes unlikely to return with the new network seemingly in its place).
Nothing requires a TV provider (DirecTV or otherwise) to carry any specific channels. There is no mandated spectrum or variety of a genre of channels they must provide. As a business, it is their choice what networks they negotiate with (if at all). Not saying you have to like it or stay, but this is just the reality of the situation.
I respect this has upset a great many people, though I believe 50% may be an exaggeration. There will be people who are happy the channels are gone, and then there are others who don't care one way or another if they stay or not. The country is not simply two sides (red/blue, left/right, etc.), as some can follow their own path instead of being forced down the chutes into one mold or another.
If you need to see alternatives, go for it. We each must choose the viewing option that best works for us. Keep in mind though, no matter where you go, those channels as well as any others can change at any time. So don't find yourself dependent on any given channel.
