Return equipment Scam

So I cancelled my Direct Tv subscription in March 2022.  Returned equipment 4.4.22, received tracking confirmation of arrival 4.7.22, received emailed confirmation of equipment return June 8th 2022.  Received a bill for said equipment dated June 27, 2022. Called to resolve without success.  Chatted to resolve in early July when the 'customer service representative' promised the bill would be resolved and credited back within 1-2 billing cycles.  Emails received 8.9 and 8.16 from AT&T 'kindly' requesting the bill be paid.  Today I chatted with a Direct TV 'customer service' rep Tine - sent screenshots and photos of all correspondence requesting the bill be credited out and the issue resolved.  Tine promised it would be resolved in 1/2 billing cycles.  within an hour my phone starts ringing while I'm in a meeting at work.  Repeatedly ringing.  I finally step outside to take the call and guess who it is?  A supervisor for customer service.  She wants the last 4 digits of my bank card or account or something so she can send me a card of some sort because they can't credit the account since I've closed my Direct TV account.  So I ask 'how can AT&T bill me using an account number that is closed then?  No answer.  She simply says she can't credit the bill because I don't have an account.

IF AT&T send me a bill, they can damn well credit it.  I'm not giving out ANY of my debit card or bank account information so you can send me some sort of card rather than crediting the bill!  Period!

I have reported this scam as fraudulent and extortionist to the FCC - next step will be a lawyer, especially if I see this issue hits my credit.  I will not ever work with AT&T or Direct TV again and I'll caution anyone I know to refrain from it as well.  This is a way to get customers to just pay a bill to make it go away and it's a scam!

If anyone hears about a class-action lawsuit against this company, I'm in!

I am sorry to hear that you have had such an issue.  If you still have yet to have this straightened out I would suggest that you file a report with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) because this will go right to corporate offices.  Plus it is a good thing you did not give out your information to the person that called you as real employees of Directv do not ask for Banking/Credit Card information over the phone as they would already have that information. Hope this helps you.
